GPS uses a lot of battery to function. There are apps for smartphones that allow you to tag your photos, or you can purchase a small unit to accomplish the same purpose. In an ideal world there would be no cost (battery life, bulk, monetary) to having GPS in a camera, but there are practical workarounds today and I wouldn't let the lack of GPS put me off of a camera.
