I have to admit I've not tested this, but my understanding was that an MA setting for a given lens model (e.g. SAL1650) would apply to any copy of that lens mounted on the same camera.

I don't see why a micro-adjust value could not be applied by a firmware update as a known lens compensation. After all, when you alter the micro-adjust value it gives an offset to the AF software.
