I do agree fully, provided you use the AF-ON method (set a4 "AF Activation" to "AF-ON only"). Menu item a1 "Release" alone will not assure you of best the possible focus. Unsharp images are...

My D700 didn't require any AF fine tune at all; all lenses were just spot on. Different story with the D300: 70-200mm and 300mm needed AF fine tune corrections.
I use LensAlign too.

"Sunspots" or "Solarspots" ....... :-)

The first thing I did after buying D300, D700 and D800 was to turn that function off! Never missed it. For flash photography the AF assist of my SB-800's do a great job.
Note: camera's like the...

Only one D800:
14-24mm f/2.8 : -10
28-70mm f/2.8 : 0
70-200mm f/2.8 VR1 : 0
50mm f/1.4G : 0
85mm f/1.8G : -7
85mm f/1.8D : 0
AFS 300mm f/4.0 : 0
105mm f/2.8 VR : 0
35mm f/2.0 : 0

This only applies to the 70-200mm f/2.8 VR2 lens. The older 70-200mm f/2.8 VR doesn't breathe nearly as much and still performs very nicely on a D800.

Most of your questions have already been answered above I think. I mainly used the D300 (in addition to a D700) for photographing airshows. My main camera now is the D800, which has also replaced...

Not quite: the picture shows C-47's, but a C-46 is a completely different aircraft, namely a Curtiss C-46 Commando. The C-47, like other variants of the type which(amoung others) were designated...

No, that won't work to get 6 fps. The D800 either uses the in-camera EN-EL15 or the one in the MB-D12, not both batteries together.

I normally prefer ADL to be off, unless I encounter extreme contrasts (which is very rare). If you really want a generic ADL setting, I would advise to set it on "Low". My processing is in NX2, in...

The low light performance of the D700 is much better that that of the D5100.

Yes! It does a magnificent job on my D800; tack sharp and no serious vignetting issues. Although I could easily afford "an upgrade", it really doesn't make any sense to me.
-
NO, it does not affect the AF fine tuning of your lenses.

After some 9 months use my D800 is still without any visible dust-spots. My D700 (2009) doesn't seem to attract any dust either. My first DSLR, a D2x, required much more attention in that respect.

I always use lossless compression for my 14-bit NEF's. Read this article on the European Nikon sites:

Yes it does with your AF-D 180mm f/2.8. See list here http://www.nikonimglib.com/dcdata/index.html.en#os-macintosh

The D800 already has more crop options than almost any other camera. A 2x crop option would not add anything meaningful to this. Also remember that a 2x crop would give you an almost useless small...

That's correct, but it is a departure from the method used in earlier bodies, like the D300 and D700. With those camera's set-up for AF-ON only, you could not activate VR with the AF-ON button. For...

Absolutely; wonderful camera, no issues at all. (camera in use since early July 2012).
Activity older than 12 months is not displayed.
