The point has nothing to do with WHERE you store your files. The fear is that, as time goes on, the CC version of Photoshop will almost certainly create PSD files that are incompatible with (i.e.,...

Shame on you, Adobe. Your greed and arrogance are going to cost you dearly. Count me as another long-time -but now lost- customer.
-
You can also buy the upgrade from Photoshop CS5 to CS6 for $199.99. I just saw that on the Adobe website (although they make it pretty hard to find - they keep trying to steer you to the CC...

Been there, done that!
You know, this makes me wonder if there might actually be differences between the 800 v. 800E firmware loads, aside from just file name. -iwbs
-
That's what I thought, too. In his hands, the 80-400mm AF-S really shines. -iwbs
-
One other point: Make sure you downloaded the 800E version of the upgrade, not the 800 version - there are 2 separate links on the Nikon support webpage. The 800E will NOT recognize the 800 version...

Forgot to mention: you should explicitly format the SD card (in the camera) prior to copying the .bin file(s).
You'll note, after you format the SD card, a DCIM folder will be created. DO NOT copy...
-
Make sure you're putting the .bin file(s) at ROOT level on the SD card, i.e., not under a directory/folder (for example, the DCIM folder). If the .bin file(s) is/are not at root level, the Nikon...

I have both, and now use D800E almost exclusively as it has a perceptible (for me) edge over the D800.
If the extra $300 dollars is not significant to you, I'd recommend you go for the D800E. That...
-
Well, the D900 will go even further - it will self-post its serial number to this very forum. -iwbs
-
And which spontaneously report their serial numbers to anyone who asks. -iwbs
-
YES!!!! That's what we mean when we say put the file at ROOT level! (Not inside a folder!!!)
To be safe, on your Mac, delete the DCIM folder off of the newly formatted memory card, and THEN copy...
-
Exactly what I was wondering! (Hence my questions above.) -iwbs
-
Same here. Yes, had to sacrifice in the fps area, but the quality of the D800/E photos more than made up for it.
I still shoot the same sports/action I did with my D300s, but now end up with photos...
-
What is the version number of your camera's current firmware?
And what is the full name of the .bin file you have copied to the SD card? -iwbs
-
Do you also have a memory card inserted in the CF slot? If so, remove it and try again. Good luck! -iwbs
-
Yeah, yeah. If you had both, bet you'd quickly adopt the E as your primary camera. Regards. -iwbs
-
I have both, and now shoot the D800E almost exclusively. I see a difference - D800E pics are discernably sharper and require less work in post. I believe the higher price is well justified. Regards...

[Edited to remove comment. Sorry - misread your reply. -iwbs]

I have had the same experience. For 3 of my lenses, the Dot Tune method indicated that I needed fairly significant AF adjustments, e.g., -15, -10, +8, respectively. However, cross checks with both...
