Brooke Meyer: Used to shoot an occasional concert for a local online publication. Editor would set me up with venue, I'd arrive early, get my Silk (Media credential), get escorted to the sound board area, shoot 3 songs, pack up and get escorted out. The editor would select a few of my photos and they run them with a review. Straight editorial use. My last straw was a "Furthur" concert aka Grateful Dead 2.0 with a contract that prohibited me from showing any in a portfolio or website. Haven't shot one since and I don't miss it.

Not a tribute band, founded by Weir and Lesh. http://www.furthur.net/

Not just Montreal, small paper in DC too:

http://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/blogs/artsdesk/general/2015/07/02/why-were-not-photographing-the-foo-fighters/

They published the contract and here's what they said about it:

" Below is the contract that Foo Fighters' management company gave to our freelance photographer. If we signed it, we would have agreed to: the band approving the photos which run in the City Paper; only running the photos once and with only one article; and all copyrights would transfer to the band. Then, here's the fun part, the band would have "the right to exploit all or a part of the Photos in any and all media, now known or hereafter devised, throughout the universe, in perpetuity, in all configurations" without any approval or payment or consideration for the photographer.

The paper offered to buy photos from fans and they could keep the copyright.

Easy. The flash, in my case Alien Bee 800's, stops the motion. I've been shooting the same dance studio all week at 1/125, f10 & ISO 400 with two Bees, one at 1/2 power and the other at 1/4. The short duration of the flash is what stops the morion.
