That wqs exactly my reaction and reasoning . . . so the answer is "it depends" :-)

Interesting result for me. Looking at the preview embedded in the thread, I marginally give it to the upper sample, but when expanding to look at 100% I give it to the lower sample without much...

I found this to be a excellent online gallery of photos putting it through it's paces
http://www.flickr.com/photos/kinematic/sets/72157631537745725/with/8002043751/
and a review from the same...

17-55mm x 1.6 = 27-88mm
f/2.8 x 1.6 = f/4.0
24-70mm f/4.0 IS is not a bad match apart from a bit of reach. Am I missing something? I know you don't get f/2.8, but you get the DOF you were used to...

I was going to suggest that you should be helping Sovern write a blog about the myths of golden hour portrait's instead of posting this type of nonsense, but unbelievably I see you've already done so.

But you don't even have to look any further than the local review here to find crop testing with plenty of praise being heaped on it in a cropped scenario. When running a comparison against the...

I've no interest in having an argument with you or winding you up, and anyway given that your opening gambit with me is a negative racial stereotype (amusingly wide of the mark by the way), I'm not...

Hello
Do you think you might stop posting in threads that have nothing much to do with the 24-105 about how good a lens it is and the pixel peepers have it wrong. R Knepper actually commented that...

Not exactly what you ask for I know but Photozone compare them at 135mm and 140mm. You don't say what you have seen so at least you know now if you didn't.

Personally, I wouldn't do walk around with a 24-105 on a crop (but I'm lucky to have other choices). Depending on your style it may meet your needs. If it was me, I would give serious consideration...

Hi
I think you're wrong to expect the f/2.8 to wipe the floor with the f/4. You seem to be majoring on centre sharpness where I think you would struggle to see a big difference even if you were to...

Placed 18th in the challenge. Perched atop a playground swing looking down.

Thanks very much for your efforts in highlighting this. Each of these 7 contestants received a 0.5 from me :-)In the same challenge, how do people interpret no visible PPing? Some appear to be...
-
Like this a lot, but feel there's a bit too much empty space in the foreground. Also isn't the PPing evident - B+W conversion?
-
It's a lovely image, but there's obvious PPing?
