About me:

I'm a professional horticulturist, master naturalist and I write a weekly horticulture column. Anywhere from 1-6 of my pictures appear each week with the column. All my shooting is done with either a GH3, GH4, GM1 or LX7 and all in natural light.

  • I'd be interested in a GH with in body stabilization and no 4k as long as it had all the stills capabilities of the GH4.  Still waiting, and waiting and waiting for in cam gps but I seem to be a ...
  • I think in this post you referred to the Pany 7-14 as being 'sealed'.  I don't think it's a weather resistant, dust or moisture resistant lens.  At least I don't see this on any of the specs and ...

Does anyone have or have you seen or have links to suggested setting for the GH 4 for stills?  Plenty available for video shooting but I can't seem to find any discussions or links to ...
  • I had a D7000 until three years ago then moved to a GH2.  Simple and practical reason...weight.  I'm finding that my kit now weights about half as much and my picture quality hasn't changed much ...
  • Wondering if anyone has this lens and is using on either the GH3 or GH4 and if the lack of stabilization is an issue in your shooting?  It's on my wish list to possibly replace my Pany 45mm 2.8 ...
  • Any idea what the crop factor is on the Sony?
  • Thanks.  Have the LX7 which I love and i use it for my local walk around but not enough reach for hiking and long shots.  Thanks for your suggestions.
  • I gave up DSLR a few years ago to shed the weight of heavy cameras and lenses.  Switched to M4/3 and that cut my kit weight at least in half.  But I find myself wanting one camera to take on some ...
  • Maybe I miss spoke.  I may have wished I was using a 7200 RPM HHD but all my backup drives are in the 5000+ category.  Just picked up a WD My Passport 2T USB 3 at Staples for $99 on sale plus a ...
  • Thanks John, That's about what I thought.  But what about the opposite process..when you need to use your backup for a new computer or reinstall?  Is there any speed or performance issue in the ...

Used a Time Machine backup via USB 3 to transfer all my 'stuff' from my MBPr to my new iMac.  Not as fast as a direct Thunderbolt transfer but I was told a little more reliable than Migration ...
  • I have a maxed out 15" MBPr and my 5k iMac arrived yesterday.  It seems that portability is critical to what you want to do so why not use a 15" MBPr with a second external monitor..either now or ...
  • I have a very simple take on this and it's not at all technical.  My last APSC was a Nikon D7000.  It was a wonderful camera that allowed me to do some really nice shooting.  But as I developed my ...
  • So glad to see this combination.  My 5k arrives on Monday and just to the left of it will be my PA271.  Seems like a pretty reliable and usable combination. Andrew

  • Created discussions New to video- GH4
Just sold my GH2 and returned a lens.  With the proceeds (and a bit more) I picked up a GH4 body so my GH3 now becomes my #2 cam. Still primarily a stills photographer but.... I know nothing about ...
  • When I mentioned that I was returning the compact version I forgot to mention that I do 99% of my shooting outdoors and while hiking.  The 2.8 is weather sealed (weather resistant) on my GH3 and ...
  • I've decided to return the lens.  However, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.  Yes, it's small and yes it's light but I just don't see the need for this lens when I have the faster 2.8 in ...
