About me:

I'm a professional horticulturist and I write a weekly horticulture column. Anywhere from 1-6 of my pictures appear each week with the column. All my shooting is done with either a GH2, GH3 or LX7 and all in natural light.

  • I'm wondering about something else..but very much related.  It seems that many doing photography work have two monitors.  I have two simply because I like to be able to work in both landscape and ...
  • Just curious about your last comment that you'd never use anything but an SSD/Flash...does this mean you'd stay away from a Fusion drive?  I agree that there's nothing quite like an SSD/Flash in ...
  • Yes it was.  Not so long ago it would have been an overnight ordeal.
  • Thanks for everyones input.  Got my new MBPr yesterday with a 1T SSD.  Migration assistant is currently at work transferring 480 GB of data and pictures in 23 minutes.  What a joy. Andrew
  • All excellent points but I recall from my Windows days that upgrading a computer with an already installed OS was always a nightmare.  I've been waiting under the assumption (incorrectly?) that it ...
  • Created discussions MBPr and new os
I need to buy a new 15" MBP.  If the release of the updated OS is announced next week does anyone have an idea how long it might be before they start shipping MBP's with the new OS installed? Thanks ...
  • We use a number of notebook/laptops and just over two years ago I began to swap out our Dells  (Lattitudes and Precisions) for MBP's.  The only dedicated Windows machine we have now is my wife's ...
  • I've used www.sfbags.com for my last five or so laptops.  When I switched from Dell to Apple I stayed with them because they make such a superior product.  I use their sleeve case with a top flap. ...
  • Great replies.  Alas, I'm just a lowly horticulturist that wants to keep some simple notes about his pictures.  Simple works but it looks like you guys have given me a weekend worth of reading and ...

  • I’ve always wanted to find a way to add notations to pictures I’ve taken before I import them into Lightroom. I’ve just discovered that when I open pictures in OSX and left click on the picture a ...
  • Created discussions Mystery files on memory cards
I'm noticing that on the memory cards I use for my GH3, LX7 and GM1 that seemingly random files with the same numbers with an added  prefix  are being created.  These mystery files are only 4k in ...
  • That's a great idea but if I'm on the road and my editor wants a picture or pictures that's in my archive a smart preview won't work.  At least that's my understanding of smart previews.  Am I ...
  • Having used Dell laptops for nearly 15 years I decided two years ago to switch to a Mac.  I just found that the Dells and Dell service was to risky in terms of reliability and fast warranty ...
  • No I don't absolutely positively need a new one.  The performance and specs on this one are just fine but my SSD contains most of my photography, Lightroom and other software and that allows me to ...

I have a 2012  15" MBP with a 512 SSD and I'm running out of disk space.  I was considering upgrading to the same model with a 1T SSD but it seems the MBP will be refreshed this fall.  Anyone have ...
  • Replied in Concert advice
First priority is enjoying the concert.  Don't think I want to carry two cameras and the quality of the GM1 is much better than the LX7.  Can't take a prime for the GM1 because I don't think it'll ...
