A lot of these entries are not from the BC (before Christ?) era. For example, the shots from Palenque and Chitzen Itza. I wanted to enter a shot from Angkor, but did not because it is only 1000...

For those non-Americans among us who are struggling to understand why the golf remarks have created controversy, this column in the Guardian helps explain...

Some nice shots in that series - especially the very first photo. Well done.
As I mentioned in one of my earlier postings, Hitech has recently started making filters that fit the Cokin-A holder. I...

It's difficult for a non-US person to see any offense in the context of his remark. Given that the golf dude is a European and speaking English as a second language, it is completely natural that...

No, the term "coloured" was not used in the US. It was used in Europe, by a European, refering to another European, who has coloured friends in the US.
-
Wow, that was only 53 years ago.
To the credit of the US, things have improved a lot since then in your country.

Yes, I do realise that Jewish people are not defined by their religion. But I don't understand why it would be a silly question to ask my friend how he self-identifies ethnically.

I don't understand this.
Surely a person who was racist against black people wouldn't have black friends?
I'm not talking about subservient relationships, but actual friendships.

-
So what?
Doesn't mean they're racist.

Aussies certainly don't worry too much about political correctness, but a lot of Kiwis do agonise over these sorts of things. It's probably because right from the start, and until quite recently,...

I don't understand why it's a silly question. I think that these issues of identity can be very complex.
My friend's father is a full black African Christian. His mother is Jewish, which according...

I don't think of "Muslims" as being Middle Eastern. I think this might be a US perception, because of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

I have a Jewish friend who's coloured. I think he would call himself "black", although I haven't asked him directly.

Thanks for the education.
I didn't realise things were so extreme.

Really?
I would think that it must be rare for a racist honky to marry a coloured person. Extremely rare, in fact.

Thanks for clarifying that for us.

Well, this thread has been news to me as well because I didn't know that US people thought "coloured" was a bad word either. I knew that "nigger" was insulting, of course.
You have to remember that...
