About me:

I like to take long walks on the beach, drink virgin daiquiris, discuss issues that provoke my feminine side, wax back hair, and laugh hysterically at those who think 3MP is really 10MP and 6MP is really 12MP.

That's a disturbing amount of noise for such a low ISO (1600) relative even to today's entry-level cameras costing 1/10th the price -- not a positive harbinger, unfortunately.

Carl Sanders: Wow! Imagine if this was shot on a full frame D700. Nice work!

Yes, there would be far less detail ;-)

Next year, when they're selling for 10% of original MSRP, I'll get one. Once the general public figures our that the native finished image size of 4704 x 3136 is actually 15MP (regardless of how magnificent each one of those pixels may be) the gig will be up and reality will set in: i.e. a 15MP APS-C brick with low-end features and handling for $9,000.

Note to Sigma: Stick with what you know: Cheap knock-off lenses. Leave the cameras to those who know what they're doing.

On Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG Macro now available article (94 comments in total)

Sigma's departure from reality: (1) Release a $9,000 APS-C dSLR (SD1). (2) Release third-party lenses and price them 30% higher than the OEM lenses they are designed to compete with.

Note to Sigma: You're SIGMA -- not LEICA! You have no "laurels" to rest upon that would justify your current insanity. What's next? A $90,000 Kia?

On B2 Stealth Bomber in the Jet Fighters challenge (4 comments in total) do you get 550mm @ f/4? Assuming the 400mm f/2.8 lens is accurate, with a 1.4x TC that would be 560mm -- so could just be a type/minor error.
