Opinion: This printer is very good. Inks are spectacular, although cartridges are small and pricey, but the prints are fantastic. I have been only using Epson papers. It is quiet, relatively fast and the footprint is not too bad for desktop. Make sure you profile it for best results.
Problems: None
Opinion: I have had this camera for 1 week. 280 pictures so far. This camera is so close to the D200, only smaller and more manageable! If you don't mind manual focusing the older Nikkor lenses it is a real gem.
I wish it had a few more focus areas, but you can work around that. The build is very good, battery life is very good as well. I am still working off the first charge!
So far very pleased, and I know it will travel with me a lot more than my D200.
It is a nice match with the 18-200 f3.5 VR lens and the balance with this lens is very good.
If you decide this is for you I am sure you won't be disappointed.
Once again, I think the Nikon team has a winner.
Problems: No problems at all.
Opinion: I have had great success with my camera. Although I also own a Nikon d200 and a D70, it is NOT a replacement for either of those.
My advice with the few shots I have done (I am up to image 365+/-):
For any shot of any importance, I try to stick to ISO 100 or 200 at max.
I am still experimenting with the WB, and I have had good success using the two custom settings for WB: W1 and w2 after I set them to a fluorescent and warm tungsten.
I set saturation to high, sharpening to high, contrast to high
Anti-shake to level 2
I shoot mostly on Aperture priority
Haven't really used the scene modes Spot focus/mixed metering (setting 1)
Shoot mainly jpeg's
Positives:
Really like the 13x9 and WIDE angle (I shoot a lot of interiors - I am an Architect)
Joystick setting changes on the fly
Small Size
Bright large/high-res display
Good battery life
I like the B/W conversions out of the camera
Negatives:
Extreme dynamic range is a problem (like most digitals and P&S in particular)
High noise in low-light/higher ISO
Separate Lens cap
Large file sizes in raw
The manual is complete, but not easy to translate to the controls (confusing icons etc.)
Bottom line for me is I needed a small take-anywhere hi-res, easy to use, manual mode friendly, good lens camera. I think it has performed just fine for me. I have shot with several Coolpix (5000, 5400 and 5900) and I think it is easier to use, has better quality, lower noise...and I REALLY like my Nikons. I have never owned a Leica, so I guess I didn't have a predetermined standard they were expected to meet. So I am a satisfied user. I am having fun learning it's strengths and weaknesses and one camera can't do everything right. I guess a lot of the dissatisfied purchasers expected a lot more and/or have different criteria than me.
If I am shooting anything important it is my d200 that I pick up, but if I am on a hike or bike ride it is the D-lux that is on my belt.
