While they seem to be asleep at the moment, I still get hope from this:
Photokina 2010 - Madison Photo newsletter:"Canon also showed images taken with their new 120 Megapixel sensor. One image...

Here is what I said in another thread:
Not really a processor limitation. Canon says:
"The EOS-1D X features three DIGIC processors, including Dual DIGIC 5+ image processors capable of delivering...

Stitching still would not work for BIF. 16Mp Nikon D4 and I have 6Mp left if I need to crop to APS-C size? No thanks! There is no reason why Canon could not put a 50Mp sensor in the 1DX and still...
-
Birds in flight still seems to be impossible for stitching. Can you explain how?
-
How would that work? More Mp still needed for cropping.
-
The Dual DIGIC 5+ processors in 1DX can process well over 50Mp at 12 fps. The limitation is with mirror and shutter. Mirror at 12 fps, shutter at 14 fps.

Or not. I forgot which part of the thread this was in. In case you missed it, in another part I said this:
Not really a processor limitation. Canon says:
"The EOS-1D X features three DIGIC...

Electronics has no problem driving the shutter and mirror at 20 fps, but shutter and mirror would be destroyed at that speed. 12 fps is the fastest Canon could make them move.
Exactly. The shutter...

I have seen complaints about lag while panning in the Sony forum. Maybe they pan faster than you?
-
My 7D is a good size as is my E-3. Both are small compared to the lenses I use with them.
-
It is mirror and shutter that limits fps, not electronics.
-
If your cat is up a very tall tree and you have a short lens, and you are satisfied with a 4Mp crop, no problem with 18Mp.
-
It is obvious I DO understand DIGIC is a processor, not sensor. I talked about "Not really a processor limitation" and at the end I talked about the sensor also not the limiting factor. I quoted...

They are probably right for that market. For a while.

Not really a processor limitation. Canon says:
"The EOS-1D X features three DIGIC processors, including Dual DIGIC 5+ image processors capable of delivering approximately 17 times more processing...

They thought half as many as D800 was good enough?
-
Hope they can get them to work smoothly together, and fast enough for fast subjects.
-
I would not upgrade (?) to another 18mp sensor, unless we get 1DX AF and AF with f8 lenslTC combos. 1DX AF and 30Mp would be much better.

And PDAF accuracy is determined by distance between AF sensors. If the main sensor is used for PDAF, it will have about 1/5 the distance compared to DSLR. So much less accuracy compared to DSLR.
