kjbkix's current gear

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS5 (Lumix DMC-TZ8)
Canon EOS 7D
Fujifilm X-E1
Travel zoom compact...not used much these days.
Best crop-sensor DSLR available. Can't say enough about it...has improved the quality of my photography as well as my interest level. Incredible ergonomics and feature set...trails 5DmkII in pure image quality but better in ergonomics, auto-focus, and custom features.
Canon EF 100-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM
Picked up used for times when I need the length. Other than being able to get to 300mm, not much nice I can say about this one.
Used mainly for macro applications...may consider selling if I pick up a 70-200 2.8.
Took the plunge on the 24L and glad I did - my most used lens and excellent for indoors, low light, video, etc. Almost the perfect general FL on crop, IMO.
Canon EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Sigma 35mm F1.4 DG HSM
Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM
General walkaround / travel zoom. For low light I just use the primes. Great combination of focal range, image quality, and IS.
First prime...used for tighter shots indoors as well as video.
Sigma 8-16mm F4.5-5.6 DC HSM
Widest UWA available for crop sensor cameras.
Other gear:
  • Canon Speedlite 430 EX II Used both on-camera and as a slave with 7D wireless flash capability.
  • Sanyo Xacti WH1 Waterproof HD Camcorder - good while it lasted but now the AF seems broken.

Between this and Canon 70-200 f/4L IS, but leaning towards this one after using the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II way too much!

kjbkix's previous gear

Fujifilm FinePix E550 Zoom
Fujifilm FinePix 6800 Zoom
Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro
My step-up from the 6800 after it died. Lasted several years until I moved to the S3.
Pretty much the first digital camera I owned rather than just used...after rereading the specs it seems pretty advanced for its time. Manual modes, video, etc. all in 2002!
First DSLR camera acquired as a hand-me-down.
Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM
Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED
Kit lens with 7D, but was an odd focal length range on that camera and wasn't nearly wide enough. Decent enough lens, and a good starter to learn the camera before picking out specific lenses that fit my shooting needs.
Bought this refurbished but wouldn't have used it nearly enough as it requires a lot of light or very high ISOs. Looking at another lens in this category with IS.
Cheapy telephoto zoom...wasn't fast or sharp enough to use much.
Tamron SP AF 17-35mm F/2.8-4 Di LD Aspherical (IF)
Wider angle lens used on Fuji S3. Decent enough...meant for film or FF of course.
Other gear:
  • Tamron 28-105 f/2.8 Walkaround lens on Fuji S3...big and heavy and not nearly wide enough for crop sensor, but probably would have been a beast on film.
