The definition of "pond".An inland body of standing water that is smaller than a lake. Natural ponds form in small depressions and are usually shallow enough to support rooted vegetation across most or all of their areas.
Do ALL the photo's submitted so far comply?
Second attempt using most of the suggestions has paid off - great dynamics.
A great "still life" and I like your interpretation. The fruit could "maybe" brightened a bit, but I wouldn't like to lose the contrast between fruit and table. I actually prefer this effort over your final choice - it's fresh and casual in a "natural" surrounding.
I still stick with my first set of comments - but this is your interpretation of what others have suggested. It works, is a goog photo and so ...well done.
The epitome of exactly what a "still life" is about. As this is your final there are no further suggestions from me. A well posed and competent photo, so well done.
The only change I suggest is to see if the whole shadow of the manikin could be caught. The DOF to my eye is in keeping with the subject matter and the whole concept works for me. I think you captured the shot exactly as planned!
At first look I wasn't sure of the DOF. After looking a while I recon it is great for yor subject. Nice vibrant color with a different subject. Would leave it as is.
I suggest the clock be closer to the bottle and the bottle to be perfectly vertical. At the moment it is neither at an angle, nor vertical. Nice color and good sharp focus.
I would crop from the right and bottom so that the wash line is in the bottom 1/3 and the right side "Rule-of-thirds". Clone out the orange garment at the top. The wash line is horizontal so I would leave it so.
This may help :
A still life is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which may be either natural (food, flowers, plants, rocks, or shells) or man-made (drinking glasses, books, vases, jewelry, coins, pipes, and so on). Still life paintings give the artist more leeway in the arrangement of design elements within a composition than do paintings of other types of subjects such as landscape or portraiture. Some modern still life breaks the two-dimensional barrier and employs three-dimensional mixed media, and uses found objects, photography, computer graphics, as well as video and sound.
Basically - Objects grouped and arranged by Man. NOT buildings, etc ......
I guess ( ? ) you may have blurred the whole photo? Try selective sharpening of the peppers and soften the blue highlights, if possible. Still a good traditional "still life" and great for this challenge.
I like it just as is. Maybe .... straighten the horizontal line of the worktop and see what a crop of the dark line at bottom does?
I suggest that the line between white and black should be exactly horizontal or the black part be cropped. I would crop the bottom and a bit from the right - Rule-of-Thirds. Another small change would be to cut the glare a bit from the blade.
I read your description and recon you have succeeded. I think the photo is good enough just as it is. It is minimal, but what is wrong with that - I have no suggestion to change anything.
Love your explanation! Rule of thirds is not cast in stone anyway - your arrangement works for me. Colors beautifully grouped (with care, I think) and the photo is bright, cheerful and sharp. It also fulfills this challenges requirement exactly. Well done - no changes from me.
3-days later, so I had better comment. The lights are not "arranged objects" - so I don't think this photo should be in this challenge. To my taste it is all out of focus and the lamps are "blown". Should have had sharp focus with DOF.
I think it is exactly what this particular challenge asked for. In focus, a different composition that works here, nice and bright. I wouldn't do anything to it.
I would like to see a little more contrast on the figure furtherist from camera. Pity the background is in such sharp focus ....
My take is that if you select only the vases (hanging on the wall) it would be more appropriate for this challenge - and make a far more pleasing photo.
RULES STATE :" So HDR and standard basic post processing is okay, as long as it is not overwhelmingly noticeable"
My personal opinion is that the original has too much post processing.
I don't think that this is a "still life". But that is my interpretation. As a photo I think the blown part detracts from the image and I think the "grunge" effect around all edges detracts from the main subject.
