SkyDreamer: Buying in the US and bring the camera back to Europe will expose you to the risk of being caught at the customs, and then you will pay the VAT, the fines and undergo a trial. Here in France the custom officers are very serious about that, they even check the camera guarantee. Not to speak about the ridiculous "international guarantee" which Nikon doesn't honor in certain countries, to protect the exclusive distributors.
True, in France it's o Ly a fine, the trial is in other countries such as Italy and Spain afaik. But:
- fines can be very high
- customs controls are random, for instance last time they checked me.
- in case of defects of the camera (or laptop, or whatever) you will have a very hard time to get a refund, or even a repair under guarantee.
Cheers!
@mgblack74- An American would object that *his* VAT is paying *your* broken head, which is an unbearable thought for 80% of them ... just kidding...:-D

SkyDreamer: UK friends, have a look at amazon.de, they ship anywhere in Europe and have normally better prices on the high tech items than the other Amazon shops. I buy from them despite I live in France, and I did very good deals.
You're right there are no custom duties in EU. BTW an advantage with Amazon is that you get an excellent customer service, and a EU imported camera with guarantee.
