I just checked mine and it only engages if done correctly! For the OP, Mako has explained the utiliy of the hood but if you whant to whatch a video try this:lens hood

The d7000 has 39 af points and 9 cross type ... have you erver used one to say its af system is not good for bif? The d7000 has also 3d tracking, I would try one before passing judgment for...

what is wrong with your d5000? I would upgrade the lenses rather than the camera!
-
I would say 1 or 2, both prosumer even though the d7000 is even further towards the pro side respect to the d90. Number 3, d700 is a disgrace if you use it with those dx lenses at 5 mpxl and number...

ok maybe I found the problem :-) ... here it goes ... do you have Q mode on (as in quiet mode)? Turn the wheel to S and you will get your beep back.

I would also add to what Ketil suggested, to separate af from the shutter release button by assigning af-on to the AF-L/AE-L button. By doing this, you can actually continue focusing while with the...

only 2 more (I'm sure I've deleted a few duds), as I've said I haven't used it a lot but if you need fast focus you have to rely on your af, afs lenses. The 85 is more suitable for shots where you...

Thanks Mako, I will try with my 18-105 (the only vr lens I have that I seldom use because of the nikon f2.8 zooms) one of these days.As you stated above, there is no focal plane and it doesn't seem...
