While user and site reviews are great sources of information I find that sometimes an item just doesn't live up to the hype. If based on my research I have built a certain expectation and I decide...

I have a 1.4G and bought the 1.8G recently to try and save some money. After all what I read I thought if I can get ~1k back in my pocket, why not! However after using it for several days alongside...

24-85VR for general walk around with good IQ or 85 1.4G if I want absolute IQ, although a bit limited use at this focal length.

Placed 4th in the challenge. Out of camera JPG

As others have mentioned, these indeed are tiny particles (dust/pollen/droplets/etc.) in the air that are lit up because of flash. I remember the first time saw those when I was in a coastal resort...

It's more about perspective, I've attached two quick snaps to demonstrate (don't have the Nikon but the Sigma 35/f.14). In the case of the 35mm I had to walk up really close for the hydrant to fill...

I'm having a hard time getting it off the camera... Love this lens!

LOL thanks for the morning laugh! :D

Yes! I too did notice that, not sure if it's quieter but something about the way it sounds/clicks did feel different from what I got used to over the last 10 months. I thought I may be imagining...

I respectfully disagree. Nikon's documentation states that the shutter will not fire in AFS unless focus is achieved, and that once focus is achieved it locks until you fire or disengage the...

Are you sure about this? I mean wouldn't that make the single servo concept pointless?
@AT

Try using AFC single point instead of 9 point dynamic while still keeping the focus point on the eye. In the dynamic mode the camera will initially use the point you selected but MAY change it to...

Not sure if I find AF slower than the 1.4D, actually it's pretty fast. Sharpness wide open is great!

I vote for the 24-85VR and not only for the D600, but also on the D800. I've found this to be a great walk around versatile lens that provides excellent quality images for casual & outdoor...

Congratulations on your new puchase and remember that the 85/1.4G exhibits focus shift as well. Nevertheless it's a wonderful lens, enjoy it! :)

I replied with my testing in a similar thread: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3448915
In a nutshell: Flash AF assist on SB900 +D800/Sigma 1.4 = OOF. Turning off AF assist on the flash...
