This is a lot of software. But once it is built, its so easy to port on any cheap NX camera with a touch screen (future). Saves time and effort from putting all those buttons and controls in a camera body. But again, the usability part is yet to be proved.

A very good entry to this category. I remember 2009 when I bought my first DSLR - D40 with kit lens for $500. Love it till today. 3-point auto focus and limited ISO are age old but the photos it takes are amazing. Fast forward to this one, everything is an upgrade. I see a lot of happy first time DSLR users, provided Sony didn't screw anything else.

Appreciate the effort but I still love the normal wild life photography. Those long zooms capturing the animals unaware.

techmine: Nikon 1's gave the "World", fastest auto focus system in MILC. That thing is crazy fast. On V1, the viewfinder is just amazing. Electronic shutter is another technology advancement. There is so much of good stuff packaged in that camera. As far as the picture quality - http://photographylife.com/reviews/nikon-1-v1 shows what can be done with that camera. Price ? Yes that huge price tag hit them hard initially but we all know what happened later on.

Canon has the same issue with their mirrorless. This is after they took all the time in the world and had ample feedback from all the camera makers/users. They still screwed it up - Trying not to kill their ordinary entry level DSLRs. I give Nikon kudos for trying something different and from ground up.

Yeah so it all comes down to the price tag! May be after reading the readers' comment on this post, Nikon will have an idea!

On 5 Reasons why I haven't used my DSLR for months article (591 comments in total)

Ergonomics play a big part. Something compact like Sony RX100 can be very good but still be difficult to shoot with, as compared to a small setup like D40+35mm prime. The speed with which one can look into the viewfinder, lock focus and fire 2-3 shots per second can't be replicated by the new crop of 1 inchers. Now fuji X100s is quite different. Rangefinders are back in business. Fixed focal length is still a shortcoming. I see a majority of people commenting here, have a backup DSLR. So there is always an alternative. Hopefully cheaper rangefinders come out in numbers so that everyone can have one.

Greg Gebhardt: The review is OK but you can't find the camera for sale anywhere.

or for that matter on display in BB or Fry's etc. Same problem is with Ricoh cameras and any other Fuji cameras. I have stopped buying cameras based on just the reviews; online.

The lack of micro SD card slot is a big let down. I waited for this device long enough to be disappointed for one small reason. there are lots of positives here - screen resolution, latest jb, powerful cpu, enough RAM.

techmine: At $299 this is the costliest phone on the market. 2 humps - price and wm8. Surely it will be 199 or lower soon. Why not lure everyone from the beginning? I like the camera but can't dare to go back to Windows mobile again. Happy with android and galaxy cameras.

CarneAsadaBrito et al, you can say that for the people who are once bitten twice shy. WM or WP, It's the same garbage. You can't even compare it with android. Simple keyboard apps like swype are enough to knock all other mobile os out of competition. Oh yes I have used all of them.

On Nokia launches 41MP Lumia 1020 for Windows Phone 8 post (147 comments in total)

Nokia is fast alienating itself from the most serious camera or smartphone users, by providing this technology in "Windows only" phones. After 808 launch, people had some hope of seeing the sensor+optics on Android (at the very least). Too bad ain't gonna happen.

AbrasiveReducer: I can see a future Nikon with SLRs and phones. They have the name recognition and product placement down. I rarely see anybody with a Nikon point and shoot, so why fight for a bigger share of something that's going away?

BTW, in the second line that's supposed to be "manufacturers".

Interestingly I find so many tourists with Nikon coolpix cameras (black strap with white Nikon) whenever I go out on vacations :-)

somehow I always felt that Olympus PnS shots are very good in color/contrast/sharpness. I never owned one but compared them with my Nikons and Canons. Always up a notch. Apart from extremely low light photo samples, the daylight shots are great. Hikers will enjoy this cam IMHO...
