Opinion: As the others have said, this is an excellent DSLR. It is basically a Nikon D90, but squeezed into a smaller body.
It is a big leap forward from the D40/D60.
Photos quality is amongst the best, and there are numerous options to play with.
Now the price has come down from its launch price, this camera is great value for money.
Problems: Live view could do with being faster, but its no worse than its competitors.
Opinion: Beautiful camera to use. Perfect for prosumers looking for the functionality of a DSLR, but in a small package.
Fantastic wide angle lens with little distortion and great corner sharpness.
Good image quality, at ISO 100 & 80 it's hard to distinguish from a DSLR.
RAW - A must for enthusiasts.
First-class build quality.
Amazing macro mode (1cm!).
Proven in direct comparisons to outperform both the Canon G7 & Panasonic LX2 (the nearest equivalents), plus it has a wider lens.
Problems: Images are noisy at ISO400 and above, but that goes for all compacts (F30 excepted).
A longer zoom would have been nice, but not a huge problem.
Lens motor is quite loud.
