24 mp is soft and mushy beyond ISO 800, 1080i as in interlaced, lens noise can be heard during video, LV is slow and outdated, AF and metering not as sophisticated as Canons, only 4 fps, lacks an in-body autofocus motor.......Sony, Pentax and Canon is a better alternative.

Great site until he became a Nikon fanboy, he acclaim to be a non sports action photographer and yet proceeded to test the 1DM3, his fellow photographers with sports/action/wild life credentials disagreed with his findings......from that day on, his Google page rank tanked. Fast forward to 2012, he had a chance to redeem himself with D800's left AF debacle, but choose not do an extensive test like 1DM3. So now, he is hiatus for good. I wish him luck and I sure hope he learned his lesson.

Hollywood uses 5D3 for video(avengers). D800 is for the in coming freshman in majoring in videography. For stills photography they are tie.

Wow, so much wood grain left, absolutely fantastic performance. Easily beating 5D2.

$2300 without IS, 24&28 with IS, I guess the earth quake really had an inverse effect on Canon Headquarters.

In reply to:

johnparas11zenfoliodotcom: for the $799 price-- one can have a Canon T3i or a Nikon D5100 -- give or take $50-- when the DSLRS are on sale..

right now the Canon T3i is $749 on sale, the Nikon D5100 is $799..

granted the DSLRs are not as small..but they are small already as far as DSLRs are concerned.. but then again, I am betting the DSLRs AF a lot faster than the G1x...

why can't have it all? :-)

if this Canon G1X-- is priced at $549 ... I think I will be more than willing to have it :-) does anybody share these thoughts?

Agree with you, G1X should be priced at $549, $649 max.
