JRFlorendo: BTW, the dust test time lapse was REDONE, this time, it was thoroughly cleaned with a newer lense pointing down to the ground.

FYI, it was indeed REDONE but what you NOT saying is the test result is the same.........dust all over again, in the same spot. Dust, shutter vibrations, soft AF, leaking oil.....and on and on. No wonder there are so many Nikon cadavers dumping in eBay and at Nikon refurbish web site.

yeah cover up seems to be true. I've been fighting with them now for about 2 weeks. Stating simple facts, and it's gotten to the point where they are ignoring me now.. Failing to respond to me at all.

This is after i mentioned and read of someone calling in and getting a Nikon tech, who claims Nikon DOES know of the dust/oil issue, and they do haev a fix. Apparently it was even claimed that nikon knows it's due to paint flaking off something in the mirror box, and if you send your camera in to get "cleaned" they also fix this issue.

I think that's why Nikons statement so far as been "send it in and we will clean it" ... and nothing else.. They just appear to secretly fix it as part of a "sensor cleaning" ... hiding that there is a wide spread issue.

Like i said, they stopped talking with me. Completely unprofessional. They even deleted three of my negative (but otherwise not rude, or inaccurate) reviews off nikon.com for the D600..

Nikon get your act together.

Yeah Nikon, get your act together and stop DELETING all the legitimate negative reviews. Everybody knows!

Fuji is AF handicap(molasses), did I mention their sub par glass, no thanks.

Eleson: Question to those who know:
G15 - " ... but impressively bright lens is a real selling point ..."
how does that hole for letting light in compare to the hole on the RX100 or other ' 1" ' cameras?
Isn't the lens fast because the sensor i small?

For Sony to match the G15's AV & TV at the long end, you must crank up the ISO by 1.5 stops.

Why is Nikon V & J NOT included, same sensor as the Sony......umm. Did G15 hit three birds with one stone, these birds V, J and the P7700......I guess so.

marike6: "The camera feels like a mini-EOS 1D, extremely solid with soft and comfortable rubberized hand grip and thumb rest. The magnesium alloy surfaces have been very slightly roughened, giving them a quality feel. It'll be hard to find another compact camera that feels this well put together".

This passage from this review seems a bit over-enthusiastic. I get what the reviewer is trying to say, but an EOS 1D is a completely weather sealed tank of a camera. That level of build isn't found in any compact, and just because this camera is made by Canon doesn't make similar as far as build. A P7700 is all magnesium alloy and few would say it's like a mini-D4.

Lastly, i haven't handled a G15 (I have handled other G series cameras), but the reviewer thinks "it'll be hard to find another compact as well put together". The all metal Fuji X10 and GRD IV are about as good as it gets for build quality and I assume DPR remembers them. Maybe he meant "put together better"?

@marike6

If G15 feels like a mini-EOS 1D built like a mini tank, then P7700 feels like a mini-D5200 built like a mini plastic..........aha ha ha!

Other hard evidence of the reknowned oil&dust sensors from Nikon, it's so good, it crippled the dust cleaning feature.

ijustloveshooting: 175 replies in a few hours? I think this tells something about G15, right? :)

That's what hapens when a 10 yrs. old sensor tech repeatedly stamping on the competition. Look at P7700 as a example, that is suppose to their latest greatest(sensor).........flap once again. Slow lense, slow AF, mushy IQ, slow response and bulky too aka obese. Nikon just can't stop selling LEMON.

RX100 repeatedly stamp to the ground by G15. G15 is the Ferrari in its category. No weak link in its packaging........Canon is owning the competition!

As usual, the 10 years old CMOS is kicking ass and taking names again! The OOC jpegs are sharper with tons of detail than the competitions raw to jpeg files and that WOW Canon colors.......Sad day for SoNikon fanbase today, no wonder D600 is giving away stuffs like a free bag, battery, sd card, 100$ rebate, 20$ Adobe discount, 300$ Epson discount, wit swab and a lifetime oil filter change for free! I heard the 6D has a warewolf eyesight able to see and nail focus in total darkness.

GarysInSoCal: I waited and waited for what I saw as a worthwhile (and affordable) replacement for my beloved D700... and I have finally found it. Been shooting with the D600 for over 2 months now... LOVE IT! At first I didnt think the extra resolution (12 megapixal VS 24 megapixal) was something that I really needed... but man-o-man was I WRONG! And this camera works even better in low light. Have recently shoot some 64,000 ISO images deep in a local forest with minimal noise... VERY HAPPY with those results as I couldn't accomplish that with my D700. Lenses I've recently used on it with amazing results are the 24-120 F4 Nanocoat ED-VR, 16-35 Nanocoat ED-VR and the 70-300 ED-VR. NO spotty sensor issue and I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

Wake up, wake up......now that your awake, go outside during your lunch break and shoot the blue sky at f11, ISO 100....see those BP oil spill?

DPR is not bought by Nikon, why would they(DPR) report and track this oil spill knowing it will seriously hurt Nikon's sales. Look at their desparate give aways for you to buy D600, free Lowepro bag, a free 16g sd card, a free battery, an instant $100 rebate, a 2% rewards back, a 300$ epson rebate, a 20$ adobe element discount and a free shipping. Why not include two twinkies too.

VivaLasVegas: It's $1000 less than Canon's v2 with IS(vc), minor optical flaws can fix in batch process. This Tamron has better IQ than Canon's v1. AF is not as fast as v2, but, is good enough. For general walk around zoom, this lens is hard to beat. How many more images can you get in low light situations with VC, 5%, 10%, 15%,....... whatever percentage it is, is it worth $1k LESS than v2?

You got it Buchanan

fierlingd: Update:

My D600 has a data corrupted sensor. Vertical bands top to bottom on right side of image. all images... Since photo #1 (i just oddly never noticed it before).

Camera is sent back for warrenty.

I spoke with the nikon dealer guy, and he told me that he thinks Nikon is officially acknoledging the D600 dust/oil issue as of today.. which surprises me, and can't find anything online about this. ....... (due to the shutter gap thing suspected earlier) .

I feel so angry after all they have put me through - for those who have followed my story in these forums. I feel walked on.. ignored.. walked on some more... mean while they have my $2000...

He tells me 4-6 weeks until i likely get my camera back too...

Guys DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF GARBAGE>

What a joke Nikon... are you listening now????

If your allergic to soot, don't get near it. I'll go ahead and like my own comment so Bamboojail won't go bananas!
