Just to add that some of the nice photos you see on these forums are the result of a lot of experience, and sometimes also a lot of processing work, not just the use of some very fine equipment....

Just take the kit zoom the next time you go shooting.  Set camera to Aperture priority, ISO to 800, or 400 if too bright, AF on centre spot, and start enjoying the journey.  Concentrate on framing...
