So, should I trade off my newly bought 16-35 for this lens (after long time consideration between 2 of them) to fund my exchange of 70-300VR to 70-200 f/4?
On my D600 the 70-300vr at 200mm is soft...

I've been praising it for some time now. This, and the 70-200 f4 make a super combo.

I would definetly look at the new 18-35G. I wasn't a big fan of UWA on dx, but fx is another thing. You might get more use out of it than you think. I would definetly go with the G over the D...

I would definetly check out the Nikon 18-35G. I'm not sure if you made a typo, but it's a 3.5-4.5 lens.

If using either on the D7100 the difference in sharpness may not be noticable, but the 70-200 should have faster AF and possibly better VR. Microcontrast should also be better on the 70-200.
On FF...

For family shots and PJ events the 17-55 is very good, but for landscape I found the far distance detail lacking, so I sold it and bought the 16-85vr which is quite sharp and has a very useful...

I compared the 70-300 to a 70-200 f4 on FF. Center sharpness is very comparable, but the borders are weak on the 70-300 at 200mm compared to the f4. For landscape use, the 70-200 f4 is the way...

I've used a 4T or 5T, forget which one, on a 55-200 vr lens that didn't do too bad for a macro setup. You may be able to locate one on ebay.

I attach the zoom top loader to my chest via small straps to the chest straps of my packpack. That way I keep the camera strap around my neck, but the weight off my neck. You don't have to worry...

I've used the DR-6 on a D300, D7K, and now my D600. Works very well on tripod or off. Portrait, or landscape orientation. It's very clear and seems to be well built. Packs away small in it's...

Correction...should be SLRgear.com, and not CameraLabs.
I also noticed that the 16-35 f4 review was tested on a D3X. Would like to see it updated with the D800E body.

I've mentioned this in other threads. When I first tested my 18-35 with the D600 the edges were indeed soft. Due to those results, and further testing, I realized my D600 front focuses. ...

I'm impressed not only by the overall sharpness, but the sharpness at distance which makes this a great landscape lens in a small light package. I was going over some pictures I had taken last...

+2.
My 18-35 blows my 24-85 out of the water as far as edge sharpness goes. I do question whether their test camera and the 18-35 they're using have had the AF fine tune performed. I question...

Have you checked for front/back focus?

Yes for tripod, even for most daytime landscape shooting.
Can you be more specific on your gear.
