tomdavis: Are we still going to have a flat view option in the forums? This is a really nice feature and makes scanning the forums very quick and comprehensive.

Yes.

Bob Blount: The content of DPR articles cannot be copied and pasted without including the black background which uses up lots of ink. Various website updates have not corrected this oft suggestion of mine so DPRs intent must to be to copy write this user hostile feature.

We have a Print view mode with the link at the end of each page for you to print the article.

tommy leong: pls keep the "ignore" person list
and if possible, add to algorithm that the
most posters list ranking will be SEVERELY degraded
if that person has a lot of people ignoring him..
ie, he is just going around irritating people to hit
the most post listing.

We're keeping it, don't worry.

Edoveral: It seems like a nice upgrade.

Will you be looking into making the forum more 'mobile device'-friendly?

Yes! Not on this iteration, but very soon.

In reply to:

harry2007: No mobile version?

It will be, very soon. Part of the change is to make Forums easier for skinning.

Javier Daz: Any plans to make the new forums compatible with tapatalk?
Anyway they look very promising. Waiting to use them.
Good luck.

No.

Marianne Oelund: A few questions:

Will it be possible to add product tags to our past posts?

Will thread/post voting be available on posts created prior to the forum update?

Search filters I'd love to have: Restrict search to a specific username, and date-range filter. It often happens that an older post I've made will answer a current question, and I'd like an easier way to find them.

> Will it be possible to add product tags to our past posts?

Yes, but not on this iteration. This will follow shortly.

> Will thread/post voting be available on posts created prior to the forum update?

Yes!

Well noted.

regis3: Search, search, and search again...

This DB of forums is an awesome way of getting new info on cameras and such, but the search should be expanded ("advanced search" option ) to get this information:

Date criteria (more than 2 years option) , users, key-words - and OR/AND expressions with these, and (if-possible) google-like search, meaning to give the top results as the most popular/opened ones.

Thank you

There is no update on search for forums in this iteration. We are planning to take a look at it to improve the experience after we are finished with this iteration. Thank you for your input.

Glenn: is there a mobile version of the forums?

Also I've been here from nearly the beginning but my ID was crossed with another user the first time the database got tangled in 1999 or 2000 and my sign up date might be wrong or actually cause the software some problem because of the crossed record if it's soemthing the new system has to look up.

Send us a feedback to take a look at it.

AV Janus: Am I reading this wrong or still no: "go to first unread post" link in a thread i posted in?

Hopefully search will be smarter to.

We will have that.

In reply to:

zackiedawg: If there are going to be buttons for linking images in the posting box, does that mean the image linking will now be in BB code, requiring [ img] code around the URL of the image, or will the traditional method of posting an image (already hosted in an outside gallery) still work just by entering the URL with .jpg on the end?

As it is right now, you will have to explicitly insert an image using one of the formatting button. This is the same with URL without .jpg suffix.

I'll take a look on it, but we should be able to automatically format URLs into links/images appropriately.

Edward Sargent: Bookmarks, allow for a way for the user to label the bookmark as to the reason they made the bookmark, it will speed up the search through the book marks.

Do you mean tagging for bookmarked posts? Interesting idea. We'll note it down.

dad_of_four: What ever you do, please do not allow changing of fonts, or colors.
I don't want it to look like my teen daughter's former MySpace page!

We won't. The formatting options provided will be similar to what we have right now, just with WYSIWYG editor.

I just hope that not all of our history will be lost?

All your posts should be intact.

JP Scherrer: Looks nice !

Now, in the KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS, what is the difference between SUBSCRIBE and BOOKMARK ?

;)
J-P.

We have split the e-mail subscription and bookmark list.

Currently to get a notification, you have to have a forum post in the thread or bookmarked it.

The new code will make this subscription more granular; you can subscribe for updates without having to reply or bookmark. We are essentially making bookmarks without the additional baggage of e-mail updates (as it were before the e-mail notification feature was introduced).

Absolutic: also is it still going to be that you can only edit your post only once and also only during the first 10 or 15 minutes, or you finally will let people edit their posts at any point?

The rule is not changed.

caterpillar: Sounds good! We'll just have to wait to see how it actually works before more comments and suggestions come in!

I have a question though, how will this revamped pages work out with android OS or tablets/smartphones accessing it? Do you have a separate/alternate template for that or it will work just the same?

On another subject, I bet those stats on complaints column is going to be a subject by itself! A positive or thumbs up column would also be helpful.

For tablets, we will keep using the current layout. For smartphones, we will have a different, lower-resolution optimized layout that is coming in the future. It will not be on this iteration, but it is not far out.

Yes! But not on this iteration. It is already high on our priority list.

Rkelac: Will the new site be Tapatalk compatible?

Unfortunately no. We're not running an off-the-shelf forum software that has Tapatalk support.
