The only thing that stops me from drooling over this compact camera, is flash sync speed. I quite disagree on the GR and Coolpix part though, I'd get those in a heartbeat if installed with a...

Ok, I was a bit exaggerating and I love the LX and XZ but these are serious cameras and a larger sensor is already possible for these two. It's just that the makers chose to delay them. Now,...

What a coincidence....I was doing a comparison months ago if there's truly advantage for using SPP versus Lightroom and, Silkypix which allows control over noise at low ISO. I went through many...

The exposure values are correct for a Merrill without a filter. On the 2nd image, it's truly overexposed for the background because his camera have exposed for the girl's dark clothes. He probably...

I love to hear that. I mean, in my case, I would love to acquire FF at lower prices. Used Canon 5d prices are starting to get enticing, yet, still pretty close to a brand new EM-5. The...

On those two images in good light, the shutter speeds were too slow especially for a Merrill camera. I guess these two were shot at ISO 100 with the aperture probably at f6.3 or smaller.
Try...

I'm not surprised. Companies have milked the bottom end for too long without innovation and fought through it by lowering prices and just left it there. This story is not far from the serious...

given as a gift and i have to use it, a bigl yes. why would i refuse it, unless I'm contented with the IQ from a smartphone and with instant sharing.

@rallyfan you have a point, from a Sigma fan here. As a non-Merrill owner, I couldn't believe the Merrill's have less battery life and camera/SPP performance compared to the previous generation....

I do remember it too during those years where I usually just stare at the these very expensive digital kodak cameras in stores. Since as a kid, that would mean unlimited amount of film and chance...

In my case, I wished digital started earlier when I was a high school student and just couldn't afford the hobby but was already using a Windows 95 computer.

by the time it gets cheaper, there would a be new a camera which is more compelling.
-
agreed. too expensive for my taste where image quality of this level can be get from an EPL5.

Get a Sigma camera, the old ones, the none-Merrill ones as IQ is close to film though you still have to take care of blowing out the highlights. The camera performance and usage is also film...

When I saw the image, I'm immediately about to comment that finally a Merrill camera that has the IQ or presence of previous Foveons then the mouse cursor accidentally hovered the image and showed...

I went to his website and I thought plenty of the photographs have good image quality which I thought couldn't possible with a polaroid or even a digital camera.

DPR might have been looking at the pixel level, while the others at a reduced size comparison.
-
Same sentiments. I miss using ISO 50, which has even more pop.

Agreed. Sigma owners know this and if I'm going to consider the Ricoh or Nikon, I should be able to compare them in RAW. Besides, the SD1M comparison image is present, somewhere. It's not very...

It's because a Sigma can't do JPEGs. DPR should have included the DP1M's RAW even if they have to reduce it's sharpness setting to -2.0 in Sigma Photo Pro.
