First, take enough memory cards to cover your trip. There should be no reason to delete from a card - they are cheap enough now. Use smaller cards - 4GB, possibly 8GB maximum and store them away...

Interesting stats too. Seems you picked the two or three stats that are better than the UK. Homicide, suicide crime in general are higher in the US. And the drug offences? Can't believe that one....
