Surprisingly, in declining ICL market, Canon seems to be profitably increasing their market share about 4%

Hilarious how comment for these two Sony news comes exactly same time from 91-104.

Reactive: It's desperately sad to see such a massive wave of pointless negative reactions from gear-lusting camera snobs who have no interest in this 'low-end' camera. You sound like a bus-load of spoiled high school rich-kid brats humiliating a little kid 10 years their junior.

Canon has to cover all parts of the market, including the bottom. The RRP is set deliberately high so when the discount electrical retailers put "40% off!" stickers on it they're still making a profit. It's not a new idea.

So why don't you brats take your vitriol off this site and go and take multiple award-winning photos with your $5000 cameras and L series lenses?

Perhaps they are affright this might be their next Christmas gift;)

Battery grip might resolve at least partially poor battery life problem.

Layout was nice. You should have at least mention the importance of bit rate, compression, microphones etc. Just highlighting marketed 4k gives a wrong idea of the complexity required for good quality video.

Compliments, much better article than previous Canon results article. A good article needs only few basic facts.

falconeyes: Small Sony is making a solid profit year after year - despite their bold effort at innovation and R&D.

Makes me wonder where all that money within much bigger Canon and Nikon is going to ... There must be a staff of lazy/inefficient and wealthy people to be sustained ;)

Sony sensors are in different divisions and so are sensor R&D expenses.

mvmv: Projected operating profit for Imaging system is +15% for 2015, still excelled unlike others. Without ground facts article is little confusing.

To have some perspective, Imaging System results, third quarter (Billion ¥):
Net sales: 302 (2015), 316 (2014)
Operating profit: 42 (2015), 43 (2014)

In-body image stabilization requires more space like tilting screen. Perhaps image stabilization might have been a better choice.

mvmv: More autonomy, further they are from camera division. Control over R&D, sales etc. means more R&D for phone sensors, where the profit lies, and less for camera sensors. Also sensor prices for Sony cameras are probably rising to same level as others, resulting less profit.

Hard times coming for Sony camera division.

hmmm... probably 7r2/7s/7s2... sensors R&D and manufacturing expenses have been far greater than actual Sony camera sales could ever cover. Those loses have just been previously buried deep inside of Devices segment. The total results for camera business might be very different to Sony than what Imaging segments result shows up.

vFunct: And why is it always Apple that has to lead the industry in innovation? Why can't other vendors do things like 3D touch, Retina displays, Touch IDs, etc.. All of these were invented by Apple first. How is it that other smartphone vendors are so untalented that they couldn't come up with a single original idea first?

It's honestly shameful how bad these other smartphone vendors are.

Might be interesting to see how close to medium format 5dsr might get with Zeiss Otus.

Very interesting interview. Sounds like Nikon can't enter in mirrorles FX/DX market. Perhaps Sony/Nikon deal excludes mirrorles sensors to avoid direct confrontation. Sony concentrates on mirrorles and Nikon DSLR market.

11-22 is not available in US and also M3 won't be available in US. Perhaps this is the reason for this strange article.

Very good second camera. My favorites are excellent 11-22 and 100 IS.
