An Whopping 13 camera's from which 12 were pretty much dead on arrival. People are desperate for Big news from the big market leader. All they get is a big finger.
You're bloody right !! Canon' strategy is worrying...Is the company too big to ignore market realities ?? They are slow to innovate, put the wrong camera segment on the market (all these P&S as stated), do not react (so far...)when Sony & now Panasonic launch premium 1' sensor on the compact & bridge segments...I'm a Canon user looking more & more on MFT gear these days !!
Well Canon has a lot to introduce if they want to keep their position as a leader in a more competitive market :7DII with dual pixel techT61/750D with dual pixel techG17 with 1' sensor & fastest zoom in the marketSX60 HSSL2 ?? (will they continue the serie as sales have been lower than expected...)Lenses will be replaced at a slow pace as usual...Come on Canon !!!
Just hope that Canikon will wake up and delivers their own 1'sensor compact & bridge cameras shortly (Photokina in september) to have a wider product choice...
This is the beginning of a new era for the 1' sensor bridge & compact cameras !What surprises me so far is the lack of announcement from Canikon (what about the Powershot G17 & Coolpix P8000...) when all major brands have new cameras ahead (Sony RXIII, then Fuji X30 & Pana LX8...)
ericsan: Canon is a conservative company wishing to protect their highly profitable DSLR's market...nothing wrong so far by not investing into mirroless segment ! When mirroless market will start to erode their DSLR's sales & leader position (if it does one day...) Canon reaction will be to launch the best mirrorless products to be N°1 on that segment !!
i should have wrote " nothing wrong so far by not HEAVILY investing & being agressively promoting their EOS-M products"...It is clear that Canon is not pushing too much this segment (2 cameras, just a few lenses, poor sales outside Japan & Asia...)

Sony RX10 is a better package with integrated EVF,bigger zoom range and constant 2,8 aperture, and its price will start to decrease with increasing competition...Ok sensor size is smaller than G1X II but IQ is outstanding anyway...
At first i was reluctant to get this EOS 100D when i got rid off my "old EOS 550D" as i was tempted by MFT but mainly 2 things made the choice back to Canon : attractive price against MFT which is overpriced generally speaking (new bodies & good primes) & the possibility to keep my Canon & Sigma lenses lineup for a couple of years more !I choose the basic kit (18-55 mm STM) which is truly sharp and i was happily surprised by the Hybrid AF II which works perfectly well.So if you can cope with the small body ergonomics, this is the ideal combo that delivers very good IQ (new sensor Hybrid AF II Generation despite remaining at 18mpix),access to the widest lenses choices (Canon + Sigma + Tamron) & Canon clear menu layout. So from now, what is missing ? : more primes than the 40mm STM to make this system fully enjoyable !!No regret at all to remain within the APSC System so far ! MFT will start to attract me when brands will stop considering that it's a "niche market"...
To those who sent stupid comments on my previous post, i'm glad to say that it is a privilege to be a" non politically correct citizen" these days...I assume the fact that i don't like the editorial line of Liberation & the buzz they did with the "non photo issue"...Yes press is the third power in France & if you criticize it (whatever their political identities) it is like if you criticize the government and most people (except the non politically correct citizens) dislike that...I do love France & but i have to admit that the country & it's people are suffering under the "socialist paradise" of the current government & Liberation is within the system...l
Liberation is a dreadful newpaper always guided by provocative articles & with an arrogant editorial line and strong left spirit " à la française"...(nightmare to see this country shrinking like Greece ...) It's true that they don't care about ordinary people, they just care about minorities & syndicates & of course journalists. The "freedom of press" is their daily battle and their "non photo issue" means nothing, explain nothing, solve nothing as they just struggle to exist & try to maintain their sales !
Big disappointment as i was ready to move from DSLR to MFT...A new body with an older sensor...same as Canon recycling years after years it's 18 MPIX sensor on various bodies...What's wrong with these brands and their policies of "minimum innovation"will wait for the new Olympus bodies coming shortly and decide to make the move or not !!
If there is no roadmap for smaller lenses to go along with this "baby DSLR", this brand new camera is USELESS !!
I totally agree with this shortlist !Just got the G15 a few weeks ago and i'm impressed by the IQ which is beyond my expectations !! razor sharp images, crystal clear details...What a little gem ! At least Canon woke up ...
interesting query as i plan to get the speedlite 90EX for the G15 !Will wait for an answer before buying it...Cheers
I was wondering if a new investment in this P&S camera was a good idea as a back-up camera, well yes it is !! superb IQ,razor sharp images, small, light, easy to use, overall operations much quicker than the older generations ( i had the G10 which was VERY slow) and fixed screen which is what i was looking for !!small sensors can be damn good these days ! forget the boring "blah blah" that has decided as a common rule that small sensor are bad, bigger sensor are much better...I will enjoy this camera and probably use it more often than my dslr gear...
What a boring new camera...such a long wait for a very basic product !!Will not wait for the upcoming & upgraded models...bye bye Canon, hello Panasonic/Olympus you will get my money for my needed backup mirrorless camera, your models are much more exciting,innovative...Cheers !!
Samsung makes good electronics but i will never buy their cameras as i do not trust the reliability of their products, they are too young on this specific market !And small sensors have no future as more and more people wants better I.Q on compact & bridges cameras ...brands start to wake up to this market reality !
What a bad born camera !!...Instead of launching new rebel models every year with minor improvements from one model to the other, Canon would better concentrate on real improvements and launch fewer models...I'm happy with my T2i and will wait to replace it at least until the T5i arrives if there is no bug...Cheers !
Will keep my "old" T2i/550D as nothing justify to move to this latest Rebel body...Might invest in the coming Canon mirrorless system as a 2nd camera if specs are good ( you never know with Canon....)Keep in touch !
