Sounds great! I think compact cameras will die out as smartphone camera tech improves. It's such a compelling package: always with you, immediate sharing and now some truly fantastic software...

And once again stiff the uk on pricing. Single app for $20 or £18.
-
Too expensive, at least in the UK.

I was stuck looking for that as well. I'm mystified as to why they left out that section. I also disagree with the conclusion about the screen. I've yet to be in a position outdooors where the...

Nice! I need to RTFM as I haven't clocked how to use clear zoom yet! :)

I second this. I've never seen an LCD screen so effective in bright sunlight. And I've had a GF1, LX5, GH2, NEX-5 in the last couple years.

I've found af-s to be fantastic for capturing moving subjects so I haven't had a need for af-c. I would like some clarification from Sony however.AF in video is nice and smooth with no hunting.

I think its faster than any other compact. I've had great success - better than all my m43 cameras to date. I feel like I'm carrying a pocket DSLR.

Ok, had our first proper sunny day today (except for a bizarre 1/2 hour where the mist rolled in!). These pics are provided as an example of the RX100 in everyday (shoot without much thought)...

I haven't done any measurements but the first time I picked up the camera I was struck by its weight. It's not a problem - lends to a solid feeling, but definitely heavier than expected.

I've found it faster than all my previous cameras. Although they were all CDAF - been a while since I've owned a PDAF camera. I feel quite confident in grabbing instant focus grab shots of moving...

Sorry that this is really unscientific but here's a phonecam pic of the screen in direct bright sunshine. It's actually more visible than this picture shows (i.e. less reflections, even better...

Here are some really quick and dirty examples of the RX100 without flash, with direct flash and with bounced flash. Plus a phonecam picture of how you hold the flash upwards. They're small and...

Got my RX100 today and it's great. Essentially a super version of an S95/S100. I feel like I have DSLR quality and speed in a pocketable camera.

Imaging Review and DP Review have both had copies for a while which is why they can immediately publish their previews and sample images.

Because..Form factor
Sony Alpha features
AF speed
1" sensor
Bounce flashAnd from early tests it looks like the RX100 is either the same or better than the LX7. I wish it had an ND filter. Not...

RX100 looks to be a winner in that comparison. Thanks for posting.

Thank you for that detailed explanation, it's clarified things for me.

The limit isn't hardware based. It's purely about taxation:

Taking one continuous stream of footage (unless it's of a show, performance / lecture) is a sure way to really bad home movies. If you actually sit down and try to plan/script video footage you'll...
