How easy is it to use the built-in WIFI to transfer images to a smartphone?

I am very interested in the WIFI feature to send images directly from the camera to my iPhone or iPad.  Can you comment on this feature and how well it works?

Can the 16-50 do tight portraits? On an A65 at 50mm and 2.8 how far would you have to be from the subject to get a head and shoulders portrait? And would there be decent background blur?
