Tabaplar: Spec wise this looks like a great update. But aesthetically, I find this design incredibly awkward and kind of baffling.

As the semi-professional model, the design of the K-5 is logical, functional, restrained....completely fit for purpose, and I think that it looks (and works) great. As a consumer model, the K-01 has a somewhat whimsical, design forward aesthetic, but to me it also looks great....it's an indulgent design, but it is cohesive and it has a clear concept.

This on the other had, seems completely out of left field to me....it's design DNA seems to have little relation to any of Pentax's current interchangeable lens cameras. It looks "styled" not "designed". To me it looks like a decade old street bike, or a pair of basketball shoes.

The K-5 and K-01 are cameras that I would buy, at least partially, because of their design. This is a camera that I would never buy because of it's design. I REALLY hope that the K-5 successor doesn't look anything like this.

I have a huge issue with this design too — the lines (dust collectors) on the left side of the lens mount. That's a dealbreaker!

I'd rather buy that cool looking toy camera they released recently.

{Yes, I'm sarcastic}.

On Pentax announces K-01 K-mount APS-C mirrorless camera news story (875 comments in total)

>The contrast detection AF on the K-5 works pretty quickly with some lenses but it's not up to the speed of the camera's phase detection focusing, and certainly not a match for the best mirrorless cameras on the market.

Same story all over again. All other campers give it to us in regard to lack of AF speed.

That Satechi TR-C seems identical to my JJC _TM-C_ purchased for $29.90 from Gadget Infinity. Think I recall seeing it at DealExtreme for a tenner more as well.

keysmith: I hope they will keep using the name "PENTAX". Personally i don't like the name Ricoh,as it reminds me of photocopy machines.

It's like Škoda ...

I don't give a shait if it's VW-parts in it as long as the name sounds as bad as Lada and it in my mind it is also associated with a cheap feel and low quality.

If Pentax is a "unknown" in the DSLR market, what is Ricoh then?! I've noticed they make cameras, but beyond that I've hardly looked their way, ever. I don't know, or have ever known a single person owning a Richo camera.

My pushy Nikon friends (now that's a contradiction ... 8o) are normally met with "I don't know anything that would make me feel like leaving Pentax", but this one got me in the gut and upset my feelings — and that's a potentially strong game-changer ...

The mood accompanied by the character took this motif to an extended level. A very good idea performed with excellence. A catch to stumble upon on a lazy Sunday! 8o)

Exactly my thought. Everything else is just plain normal in China. 8o)
