That's exactly what I've done, Mark. Thanks.

If you're going to see any European architecture, a wide angle lens would be useful! I love the 14-24 for this, but maybe the 16-35 will suit you better.

Here's a friend of mine who visited with his wife a little while back.

The D800 is spectacular. In fact, I am still delighted with my D700. There's no need to rush out a replacement to the D800 any time soon. I suspect a big part of the next release will be on ease...

Despite my current problems with my D800 (which I am sure are unusual) I have been delighted with mine. I have the 85/1.8, which is excellent on the D800, 70-300, 24-70 and 14-24.
The 14-24 is...

Good suggestion, but yes I am sure I has AF Fine Tune set to ON.
:-)

I can't get FoCal to work on my D800 (it constantly crashes) although it works on the D700 just fine. Dot Tune gives bizarre results - in tune all the way from -10 to +20.
The D800 has gone off to...

Yes, it was Croome Park. Tried some photos inside but they were also blurry.
Bought FoCal this morning, but although it works well with my D700 it keeps crashing with the D800. Urgh.
Will try...

Thank you for your input. It caused me to read the manual again, very carefully, as well as reading Thom Hogan's manual again. That's always good. :-)

Good questions: I find the D800 manual confusing in a way that never happened with the D300 and D700.
AF-S single point.

They might complain because when you view a conversation in FLAT view, all the messages pop up at once. If one of these contains nudity, it can be a firing offence at work. Many businesses are...

Many thanks. I'll look into getting the software.

BUMP before I call Nikon.

I have a Phottix, which has worked well with my D700 my causes strange side effects on my D800. (However, I'm encountering other strange behaviour on my D800, so the problem may be the D800)

You can see the histogram after the shot.
Minimise the risk of blowout by using almost any of the shooting modes. ;-) - even manual, where you can adjust speed and aperture using the thumbwheels.

Thanks.
I have just shot a wall at an angle with different focus points and it all focussed where I expected.

Let's try another.
Here's a church tower. (screen shot). Despite the focus point being put on it, the church tower is hugely out of focus; the much nearer house and tree are largely in...

Not sure why the EXIF data has been stripped but it was 1/500 at 24mm, ISO 200, 0EV. Basically the Nikkor 24-70 lens on my D800. (I also got similar results with the 85/f1.8 lens, so it's not the...

Two weeks ago I sent my D800 in to Nikon for repair after a lens jammed. I've just taken it out for its first use after repair this weekend and have been startled by the results. Before I send it...
