Thanks guys. So the main difference is the autofocus issue - I am not worried about it.

The Ken Rockwell site is what it is.
If you are a professional or semi-professional photographer /videographer / whatever his site has little value.
What he has done is create a valuable data base...

I was looking to pick up a used 12-24 and I see their are two version.
Are they optically the same lens? If not - what is the difference.
My friend just got a new FX body and he is selling it to me...

The 18-70mm is a great lens. It's heavy but it makes great images for the price.

I think as we move forward you get less and less gain from the previous model especially with the a DX body.I just got a D5200 but I still have a D5100. Just for the hell of it I grabbed a video...

Thanks for the opinions. Both of the 24's are going to cost me close to $300 so I am probably going to look at the 12-24 Tokina as an alternative. For what I am shooting I don't need a wide lens...

Thanks for the opinion. I am glad you have one. I find it interesting because I have the 50d and 85d and they seem to be very sharp. I am surprised that the 24's are not very sharp. I may try to...

Over the next year I am shooting a series of interiors and I am looking to get a 24 prime lens. I have a D5100 and I see the 24 2.8D and the 24 2.8AI. This is all stuff done on a tripod with...

This basically answers my question. I have the kit 18-55 lens and I use it for some freebe charity events. I was looking at getting a used 18-70 without the VR. This is basic candid / podium /...

I have a question concerning the VR feature on most of the new zoom lenses. I realize that it is a huge advantage when shooting with slow shutter speeds but does it really make a difference at 1/30...

I didn't have a flash with me and I used it in a pinch.I think I set the dial to the wrong "A". I put it on the auto-auto and not the Aperture Priority. Just did a test and it's locked it to the...

I was out shooting some people stuff and I got stuck in a one area with low light and no flash. I never used the on-board flash on the 5100 before so I set it to automatic. The exposure was fine...

At what focal length does the lens stop all way down to 4.5? The 18-55 is at 5.6 at 55mm, so I am curious what the 18-70 is at 55mm.Thanks

I was looking at this lens and it seems to get favorable reviews. I have the 18-55 kit lens along with several prime lenses and I thought the 18-70 might be a bit more versatile than the 18-55.It...
