Fuji has build the path 2 or 3 years ago with Fuji´s x100 model.
And now, all brands follow this iniciative.
But, only Fuji has made new digicams with solid and real retro look beauty , and with the latest technology! Like the X100s model. Bravo Fuji.

Seems like they are doing things with photographers in mind.

Could it be they think they are actually a competitor to Apple ?

@Nerval.
Are you a Microsoft´s Propagandistic Section?
Your simple mind its very simple way. "And about stealing tech, I am afraid you confuse buying rights and supporting tech with stealing it." Buying rights?? If he lives, Gary Kildall, think in the same way? What about Marc Andreesen? and Tim Paterson? and Java? OS/2? Logitech, etc, etc.
In first place you need to read some of computer´s history.

Seriously I have Picasa and may be getting another program for Christmas, so is there a reason why I should have this on my computer? I have Windows 7 on both the desktop and laptop. Just trying to figure out this.....thanks!

@zenit_b
Picasa support? Picasa is a Google´s software!!! This is another discussion.
Just read well, again. THis post is over Microsoft raw support!.

The editing registry, Is FOR PROFESSIONALS, NOT FOR A SIMPLE USERS. Period. This is a lack of compromise of Microsoft for all Windows users. Just to feed a lot of experts´s commentaries and to sell a lot of magazines and computers courses. Just business, not a good customers support. Windows isnt free, and too expensive vs Mac OS X and Linux.

Fuji have the more photographic tool. Viewfinder, the 2nd biggest sensor, ergonomics, full manual operation, etc.
Why Dpreview emphasizes:
The megapixel race again? FUJI HAVE a better X sensor vs Bayer´s sensor, and have a better Iso performance at minor resolution.
The lack of OVF? Well OVF its very important. Brigth, and the images are the real scene, not an electronic representation.
The cheapest plastic body? Well Fuji have the most beatiful and solid design.
The poor lowligth performance at High iso? DPreview insist to justify that the Canon minor sensors are better than Fuji or equal than Sony sensors... well.

And Fuji had to replaced all defective sensors without cost! And haven´t tried to sell a new digicam with OVF to replace the X10. This is a real vendor support. fix the digicam, without intent to replace it.
But Dpreview always voted for Canon, again.
And they never put a Fuji´s digicam in top positions.

@Torsten Hoff, well, if you try to convince me, writing "i have used the old codec pack for years without issue", you are in the wrong path. This pack not "so old" and not run in all Windows distributions, since 1995!. Just in the last versions!
But, take note about 64 bits installation problems.
Just read the lot of installation problems for many posters in THIS THREAD and not ignore the simple facts.
Poor digicam support (i´m a Fuji user)
Installation problems (I have 25 pcs on my Computer Center)
Editing registry, well, a lot innecesary way to install a modern software.
Poor 64 bits support.
Or are you trolling the others users, like me, with "unsupported" digicam models???

Oh my God! Hey OnTheWeb, let me explain this... Microsoft has build his Evil Empire crushing all competitors, contracted an army of writers to write bad comments about competition and good experiencies with the Microsoft crappy software, had destroyed Netscape with a lot of aberrations practices, pushing and stolen IBM OS/2 SO, (remember Win NT 3.1?), stolen Java code (ActiveX?), they has put pieces of software into Windows to hang up the Software rivals (Lotus, Wordpro, etc), had "revived" Winxp, to crush all the Netbook´s Linux market, they had included many versions of IExplore (Mosaic) in all Windows distributions, from 1995 to today, embeded into his SO, to produce a monopoly, had included the Alexa spy software to "know the customers costumes" into his SO (IExplore button "What sites related?") , had to destroy OpenGL, with his DirectX software. They Had tried to destroy Linux, OS/2, Novell, Digital Research, etc. etc.

WOW!!! It's a typical MICROSOFT "PLENTY OF BUGS INSTALLATION!"
Bad again!
You need a Software Engineering to install this piece of c**p!

nicolaiecostel: Just took a look at the High ISO images, it looks better than my D700 by some margin and the sharpness in some pics is great. Too bad it's an amateurish-hipsterish kind of camera.

??? What? Why compares a Canon minor digicam vs the Fuji´s best digicam? what? Do you have a Fuji X-PRO 1? This Fuji beast its in another league!!!!

Oustanding output render images!
Plenty of Image Quality and a lot of Best Image Quality in High ISO samples i've ever seen at this sensor size!

Thanks Fuji!

On CES 2012: Fujifilm stand report article (41 comments in total)

Well done Fujifilm! Its on the top of the wave again!
A few months ago Takeshi Higuchi, head of the company's camera division, said "Japan's Fujifilm aims to become the world's fourth largest camera maker by next March and the No. 3 manufacturer two years later, overtaking first rival Samsung and then Nikon, a senior company executive said." The objective is more and more close.

cxsparc: I know why they chose 17.7 mm.

The answer is.......
.... so that the Nex users can't use those primes.

A Nex 5N is the obvious alternative to this camera and probably equal in therms of IQ. The 7 might even be better in resolution in good light. Both are cheaper.

Now if you could mount those lenses on the Nex, who would buy the Fuji body?

Equal in therms of IQ? mmmhhh. Fuji prime lenses its best!
And Fuji has a M mount Leica adapter...
Fuji rulez.

In reply to:

Cy Cheze: Hope someone gets to confirm if the EVF is usable. The LCD might be hard to use in bright sun or long zoom.

This is the sort of camera one might want to be weather resistant. But the introductory remarks don't address any dust or weather sealing.

Optical stabilization at 624mm focal length might be very difficult indeed, although perhaps more feasible than with a 1/2.3" sensor in need of slower shutter. At that lenght, video can seem "shaky" even on a tripod.

EVF Has a 1.44 Mpix of resolution. What do you need? More Mpix?
Hey man, this camera is a much better in terms of sealed body vs other bridgecams. And has a metal dials and rubberized coating.
Optical Stabilization its much better than sensor shift.
And with bigger sensor than competition, you set more speed shooting at same focal.

In reply to:

VadymA: I agree with those who think that Fuji samples are just bad. They are worse than what I am getting from my old P&S Canon A620. Yet, I refuse to believe that a modern camera would not be able to deliver better IQ than a 6-year old P&S. So I am confident that in my hands it will be an excellent replacement to my good old A620.

Of course, as a compact camera enthusiast, I wish that such stellar build quality was wrapped in a more compact body. Oh well, the value/cost ratio still seems to be much higher than any DSLR with similar body size. Now in my mind there is a battle between FZ-150 and X-S1. Not sure who is gonna win yet.

???? FZ-150 vs FUJI XS-1??? Are you kidding??? Has you read it the specs? Do you saw any pics from Fuji X-10??? Do you watched the FujiGuys´s video about this New Super BridgeCam?
And, have you read it the DPREVIEW´s main title?
"Fujifilm releases X-S1 PREMIUM EXR 26X Superzoom"!!!!!
Please note the word PREMIUM!. AND "Rubberized coating and metal dials to emphasize its premium 'Made in Japan' status."
And from FZ-150 specs "Manual Focus (Jog dial and cursor key button)". Do you compare this with Fuji XS-1 Manual rubberized ring focus???
2/3" fuji sensor vs 1/2.33" tiny pana sensor.
And MANUAL FOCUS ON VIDEO MODE!!!
This is the new revolution bridgecam concept.
