Replied in sensorgen bloopers?
The DXO mark numbers show DR going down as ISO increases. For example the K5 goes from 14.12 EV to 10.36 EV at ISO 80 and 1600, respectively.
cheers

Replied in Astrophotography with GPS O-1 !
These are really excellent images. Pentax has really hit a home run with the K5 and GPS O-1 combo!
However, I think you will find that using lower ISO will give equal or better results....

Replied in 24 Mpix APS-C: what do you think?
I did a double take when I first saw pictures of the new Sony cameras. The A-77 looks like a clone of the K-10D. The styling is very similar.

Replied in K-5 weathersealing/weatherproofing
You're a braver person than I, but the proof will be if it keeps working.

Replied in Astrotracer Shots
I've taken my fair share of long exposure astrophotos.
The sensitivity of the sensor doesn't change by using high ISO, and because the K-5 has such a wide DR at low ISO, there's no benefit to...

Replied in Astrotracer Shots
These are nice shots.
However, we should all remember that there is absolutely no advantage in using high ISO with the K-5. The K-5's wide dynamic range and extremely low noise, coupled with...

Replied in Using your K5 and K7 for scanning photographs
I use my DSLR and my Pentax A30 as a digital copier all the time. Yes, the resolution is lower than a scanner, but the big advantage is the speed of a digital camera. I use a clamp-on camera mount...

Replied in here's a quote
This is a very late production K10D and probably has the V2 MB.
I admit that the high ISO was a problem, but you also have to consider that the camera was also struggling with the poor lighting...

Replied in Pentax K-5 iso 80 AstroPhotography !
Excellent work, and you demonstrate the fantastic potential of the K-5 and the fact that the lowest ISO setting is preferred on the k-5 due to its very wide dynamic range and extremely low read...

Replied in here's a quote
I did a test of K10D AF-C tracking here:

this test was done in poor lighting and fairly low shutter speeds, but the camera seems to predict...

Replied in Pentax K5 - The Milky Way
Your photos demonstrate the great potential of the K-5 for astrophotography, however the K-5 has extremely low noise and uses 14bit RAW files, so there is absolutely nothing to be gained by ISO...

Replied in M42 The great Nebula + Running Man Nebula.
You don't need to use high ISO with 14bit cameras! You will get better results by using the same exposure times but with ISO 80.
