I would say that the problems with this pic is rooted in the glass.  The CA in the tree is awful, and the detail is lacking.  As you increase pixel density, good to excellent glass is a must IMHO,...

It all boils down to how much room you need.  Unless you are using the 55 2.8 seated at a table, there can be a lot of bending over or sitting on the ground if shooting wild flowers.  Dave

I had that lens for a short time and liked it mostly for people type shots.  I wasn't that impressed with the infinity shots, so I sent it back.  This is one of my panos I took with it.  Dave
