Definitely come to an agreement with your friend about a "return policy", maybe 7 days ? ? Doing business with friends, neighbors, family, coworkers can be a disaster, so talk it all over beforehand.

yeh . . . I probably should have left the "2013" out. Let's say "when the X100s drops to $750" (ex to new condition).
-
FWIW, I bought a used X100 for $650 just when the X100s was announced. I am extremely happy with that decision; late in 2013, I expect to sell the X100 for $250 (?who knows?) and buy an X100s for...

Yes, and there's also a reason why mirrorless cameras (which are laid out very much like film rangefinders) are displacing SLR's . . . it goes round and round, you know !
-
I have a thumbrest on the X100 that kind of simulates a film advance lever, doesn't it ? ?

I have three Nikkor 50's. The little AF-D is very nice and small and I'd probably couldn't tell which lens took which photograph. (I have a D5100 body). If you need to spend money :-D buy the...

Putting aside the OP's question, I agree with you ! For family fun, a good small P&S is the best option. I have a Panasonic LX3 for those times and it's a wonder.

In FF format, I'd take a 24mm and a 50mm.Next trip to Europe, I am going only with the Fuji X100 (35mm equiv focal length). Changing lenses on vacation is a big pain, as is dragging along a big zoom.
-
For general holiday snaps, take the smallest gear that you can psychologically live with and have fun ! I never drag along a setup that is big or heavy or cumbersome on a vacation.

@ Ray SachsYour postings on this thread are overbearing and obnoxious, and personally insulting of the people you are responding to.If you want to improve your credibility, improve your manners.

I have owned and loved lots of Nikon gear for 30 years. Still do.That aside, the Coolpix A is a very nice $600 camera, and comparing top views, you can easily see that the CoolpixA and the...

On my netbook, the flare becomes very apparent when viewing from slightly above normal viewing position (or tilting the screen downward a bit.) It is in the sky above the lamps and is a fairly...

I took a survey on another forum, asking "I'd like to know what is the *maximum* price (these are US dollars, thanks) that you would actually shell out (in 2013) for a camera design exactly like...

I have an X100 and a Nikon D5100 (plus a bunch of lenses).I print 8X10's and I'm happy with the images that come out of both cameras.IMO, choosing between the Nikon DSLR's is a matter of picky...
-
These two are not competitors. The two cameras are worlds apart in how they handle. I doubt that they will split a market segment.Nikon gave up the viewfinder, knobs and fast lens for pocketability.
-
I agree 100%. The design is absurd at $1100 ($1200?, I forgot).Using the Fuji X100 ($1200 new, $800 excellent used) as the baseline, this camera is a $600 design.(FWIW, I own and love Nikon DSLR's...

Would you clarify something for me.By "old Minolta" are you talking about their manual focus lenses? Or their autofocus ("A-mount" I think Sony calls them) lenses?(Minolta manual focus lenses were...

Good thread - no arguments about this and that. You guys are showing dogs, well you must see Lexie my baby girl, who is my constant companion, esp when I'm on the computer !(I spoil her so much, my...

Yeh, I have been tempted to get the "28mm" adapter. Seems like a nice, small useful addition. If it was "24mm" I'd probably but one, but 28 is too close to 35 for my money.. Nice pictures, by the...

hi thereyou quoted me, but you obviously did not read what I had written. It doesn't matter, it's the OP's decision, but I feel obliged to reply to you only because you quoted me. Please go back and...
