Happy hols because it is CHRISTMAS!
Whrere, oh, where is the tilt and swivel screen, eh?
GabrielZ: Give it a 1 inch sensor - EVF and it might become relevant again, oh and a touch-screen facility would be good too - Canon are market leaders in that department.
G1X + twist&swivel screen (can be touch sensitive) + better battery + solid macro + brighter lens + remote flash control + tripod socket distanced from battery/card door + ISO/EXPOSURE ADJ on wheels + quick 5/10x magnified pre/after-shot focus confirmation + time-lapse + custom self-timer + more protruding grip (slightly) - and you have got a winner.
AbrasiveReducer: These are fine, but I stlll hold out faint hope for a faster G1X. For its size, the image quality is just outstanding, but I understand why people will choose smaller sensors in exchange for faster operation (and lower price, of course).
@howardroark Can you say more about your filter and how it performs?
EvokeEmotion: Boy that G16 is one ugly looking camera.
I prefer females to cameras to sleep with.
Canon you giveth me the flip T&S screen in G16 and I taketh it away from the shop, OK? Otherwise I do not considereth it. BTW, wouldn't it make sense to produce 2 versions at the same time: with flipout screen and separately without it? The names could be G16FOAMIAYPS (flip out and move it as you please screen) and G16NMPS (no movable parts screen). Or better still just repair the G1X by adding to it better macro, slightly longer zoom, brighter lens, faster autofocus and longer battery life and I wanteth no more.
Is there any logical explanation to the differences in prices in USD, GBP and EUR? Canon 70D with the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens is to cost:$1549 or £1399.99 (=$2,130.43) or €1499 (= $1,953.93).Are Europeans subsidising American photographers or are just plain ripped off?
Now Canon, repair the G1X with the above features and I'll marry you for ever and ever happily after.
They would better add a twist/swivel screen.
Fools and idiots. Russian drunkards?
Add a twist & swivel screen to it and it's mine. Otherwise I'll patiently wait until competition learns to instal them and I'll forget the Canon name.
EssexAsh: Merry Christmas all. Call it what it is
Merry Christmas and a fine photographic New Year. May we have a plethora of ultimate cams to choose from.
Has the same designer gained their professional experience on Russian tanks?
Canon, if they are sensible, will produce Canon PowerShot G2 X sans the G1 blunders. And, for myself, it will be the optimal compromise between compact and mirror cameras:- zoom 24-120- good battery life (min. 500 shots on one charge)- improved closest focusing range and macro- faster focusing- faster lens (2,0-2,8)- plus some comfort-of-use improvements- wireless remote control- time lapse feature- filter thread- tripod socket away from battery compartmentWhatever changes are applied MUST KEEP the tilt/swivel screen.
