Henry M. Hertz: well it´s simple.

there are only so many amateur morons who buy a new camera every 2-3 years. :)

the majority doesn´t see why they should buy a 700D over a 450D or 550D (insert your nikon or sony models).
not for 10x15cm prints or facebook uploads.

so the market is saturated.. good is good enough for the majority.
the few people on forums like dpreview doesn´t count overall.
it´s not even 1% of the customers.

people normaly don´t buy a new printer just because there is a new model.
they use their printers until they break.
i guess the same applies to cameras.

today most who want a DSLR have a DSLR.
it´s always the same.... at one point the market is saturated.

and to be honest... improvements are marginal and only visible (or important) for geeks.

When I first bought a digital camera (Fuji 4900Z0 it was 2Mp and a 6x zoom, moderate low-light performance. Each 2 or 3 years, i got something better - Canon A80, CanonA710, the a Canon T2i Rebel - pixels doubled every 2 or 3 years, ISO got better, etc.
Now, it's plateau'ed. I can get good poster prints from a Rebel. (Heck, I got decent 11x14 from a 2.4Mp Fuji.) I can get every lens range I want at a price below budget-busting. I canfit a vacation worth of photos on a acrd or two. The only camera I bought recently, was a Lumix for underwater (a specialized use).
I can't imagine how much fancier cameras can get. I've contemplated mirrorless for a smaller changeable-lens camera, but the current models don't appeal. (My Canon A80 had a flip screen and a viewfinder. ) I can wait.

fred 76: There is definitely NO REASON to buy that kind of camera because it is FAR TOO MUCH EXPENSIVE.

A G1X will do the job for less, with only advantages :
- integrated flash
- orientable screen
- small size
- ability to store RAW pictures
- big CMOS sensor (almost same size than a EOS sensor)
- only 560 EUR !!!

The only advantage of the M compared to the G1X is the ability to change lenses and to use the EOS Utilities softwares. Is it worth the huge price increase ?

How do you use a touchscreen underwater?
