On SherpaFund raises money after Everest avalanche article (21 comments in total)

I think this is a wonderful idea. The tragedy last month enlightened me on the dangers the Sherpas go through to make the expedition of most modern Everest climbers that much easier.

This group of highly trained men climb first, fixing ropes and ladders, while hauling tons of supplies on their back. They are mostly humble people, living off the bare necessities in life.

The Sherpas are truly the unsung heroes. Blessings and peace to the families and friends who lost their loved ones.

Where's the Nikon D4 review?

@Richard Shih,

I am pleased to see that Barney is not the only one at DPR with a sense of humor.

This is one major reason why I continue to frequent DPReview. Your website is intuitive and constantly undergoes mostly useful upgrades. And it's free! Many thanks.

khongja: Sony is going overboard with this model.Already the resale market has plummet so low to half the value in Asia.
Sometimes men has this weakness for hypes and Sony marketing FEATURES get the better of us.....

I'm not sure I agree.

Sony have identified a popular "high-end" enthusiast compact and continued to modify the RX100....just like how Canon produce iterative models of the S90 or G series cameras, Panasonic with their LX series, etc.

On Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 III First Impressions Review preview (2970 comments in total)

I like that Sony plans to continue production of the RX100 Mark I and II despite the imminent release of the Mark III. Great for the consumer to have choices.

Based on information from the company's YouTube video, the price points will soon be $799, $649, $499 for the different iterations.

I am nearly ready to have Sony take my money!

On Little beauty: Nordin Seruyan's macro images article (352 comments in total)

Photographing animals that have been manipulated or harmed in any way should not be celebrated as artful.

I ask DPR to shut down this story if the accusations raised by forum member 'mansod' are true.

"..Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common fatal genetic disease affecting children and young adults."
The disease is not Universally commonly fatal.
Cystic Fibrosis is the most common lethal generic disease among...
CAUCASIANS. (OMS)

How does sickle cell disease compare?

bzanchet: I`ve never seen the DP staff reply so much on the comments section :)

IMO the quality and portability of the RX100 got a big chuck of Sony`s own ILCs sales. I think Canon did not want that to happen, so they keep releasing cameras like this and the EOS-M, with IQ far inferior than their DSLR.

Ps.: I dont understand why manufacturers lately are always setting mutted colors as defaults. I believe that are still a lot of photographers that use Jpegs. My OMD-EM5 got the best auto colors I`ve ever seen.

I take much pleasure visiting this site because at the end of the day, the DPR staff are as passionate about photography and photographic gear as their readership.

I can see why some DPR forum members are crying foul.

In many instances, the one photo (among many) in each award-winning set chosen by DPR to display here really do not appear to be representative of the caliber of work by the photographers.

Congratulations to all the winners!

Call it whatever you like, Sony has got it right.

Photo 1 by Sara Lewkowicz is just one of many in her award-winning set that highlight the insidious nature of domestic violence.

Kudos to DPR for being the first to shed light on this matter. Not necessarily a deal breaker for people interested in buying the T but a bit disheartening to hear nonetheless.

@Clint
Many thanks for the link.

Whether the Leica T will sell to artists or artisans of photography is irrelevant.

Leica's marketing department have created an immeasurable buzz that they could not have envisioned.

On Lytro announces Illum light field camera article (347 comments in total)

5 megapixel images? That is so retro for a forward-thinking product.

If nothing else, Lytro is finally making a product that resembles a photographic tool. The relatively high price point will likely prevent the Illum from gaining significant traction from a wider photographic community.

Ultimately, I see the company's technology bought out by a smartphone maker like Apple, Samsung, Nokia, etc.

On Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II Review preview (451 comments in total)

I find the inclusion of the reviewer's shooting experience in recent DPR reviews quite useful.

Since sensor technology in compacts is frequently shared among different camera brands and may be nearing a plateau in IQ, the ease of manipulating exposure controls and quickly and accurately acquiring focus under various lighting conditions are what help photographers choose one camera over another.

The G1X II looks to be competitive with the RX100 II. I imagine the in-studio comparison shots will be available soon. Thanks for the initial impressions.

Just as how the Olympus tobashi scheme occurred over at least a two decade time frame, so will the backlash from those gravely affected financially.

One wonders how Olympus can gain profitability and trust again from major investors.

The A7S has the same ISO sensitivity range as the Nikon D4S, but in a smaller and lighter form factor....likely at a third of the cost. Well done.

If Sony can produce more native lenses for the relatively new E-mount A7 camera series, Nikon and Canon have no choice but to go all in in the mirrorless FF market.

Exciting times ahead.

It takes a special person to do Anja's line of work. Though she has perished from the earth, her legacy will live on forever.

My deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and colleagues.

Peter K Burian: A lot of photographers wish Canon were spending time/money to develop new lenses for DSLRs instead. Like the LONG awaited replacement for the 100-400mm L zoom.

Is there really a huge demand for expensive video gear that's not already being met by Canon AND the many competing manufacturers? Just asking...

True, but I think Canon are large enough a company that have enough resources to work on photo and video gear simultaneously. Just saying.
