All the negativity is just funny, "If Nokia had Android""If Sony made it a 5 megapixel" " No OIS" well people this is a phone and for a phone the pictures are not bad, not sure what you were expecting? even Nokia in some lighting conditions is not all that good.I have news for you, if you think a phone will ever replace your DSLR keep on dreaming. In my opinion the pictures taken with the Z1 is not that bad at all "for a phone".
The Scurvy Dog of PR: Didn't I read that Sony was getting out of the Cell Phone biz?
Did not know Panasonic was ever in...LOL
akira204: It's cool and all how you can compare this to a Nokia 1020 (a dying windows ecosystem). I come from the android world and honestly, this phone is pretty impressive, combined with the Bravia engine 2, Snapdragon 800 processor and the well built in G lens to not make it look and feel over bulky, this phone seems balanced. What if Nokia switched to an Android ecosystem? well, that's a different story. No doubt I would jump on a pureview 808. I've previously had a Nokia 920...the WP8 ecosystem, the over lack of apps and the lag just by loading an app was just too much for me. I currently have a Note 2, was gonna get the Note 3 however the camera for that is exactly like an S4. To each their own. But I would never switch to an ecosystem that is dying slowly. Apps is where it's at for most handset users.
With Microsoft proposal deal to buy Nokia for 7.6 Billion, I don't think Nokia will ever have Android.I would not count Windows out.
AndyHWC: applaud for the dedicated shutter button. Hopefully the phone will have similar IQ as WX300, HX50. But users should not expect better IQ than Lumia 1020, maybe better than Galaxy NX though. 1020 has OIS and 1/1.5" sensor based on proven technology from Pureview 80.
My Sony Xperia ZL has a dedicated shutter button and volume acts as dedicated zoom I love this phone but have to say the picture quality in low light is bad, I hope this Z1 is better
A step forward for Sony, would like to control Shutter speed, aperture and ISO settings remotely on my NEX-6 not to mention touch focus via Xperia phone or TabletI love the time laps app from Sony and would like an HDR bracketing app.
Like "Octomom"....plastic fantastic with fake leather lips...LOL
Ugly and except for the crappy 1.9 Megapixel wrist band, what makes it better than all the other smart watches out there?
mpgxsvcd: Sony got the Walkman right and then has just produced 1 epic fail after another. This is a great idea that no one will ever use. Kind of like Lytro.
Yes the lithium-ion battery and Blu-ray was a bad idea for Sony and epic fail, people are so dump
Man I wish I did not get the ZL ;)
No RAW capture for $500? Sony go home you are drunk.
Boerseuntjie: Wow that's a bold price for a crappy camera
Well you can get the Lunar one for the on earth price by getting the Sony version...LOL What far off "Galaxy" would buy this Samsung?
Arn: I'm an NX user myself (along with Canon and Sony gear) and if this is any indication of the future of Samsung's pricing for the NX system... well, I'm afraid that the whole system will lose it's appeal. The NX gear so far - camera bodies like the NX20 and NX300 and just about all of the NX lenses are reasonably priced and very high quality.
Now /this/ product is just the opposite - an overpriced niche product. Like previously mentioned - had it been priced around $800-900, it would have made more sense and wouldn't have been DOA.
$800-900 still expensive, how about $600-700, it's a toy
Wow that's a bold price for a crappy camera
Not 1080 only 720, small CCD? what's the point of this? someone please tell Ricoh that compact cameras are a dying breed and this one is already dead before it was born.
jimstar70: I don't uderstand one thing. Sony has all pieces of technology to combine into a superior camera. But I haven't seen any camera in their lineup I would like to buy since previous decade. Every new model misses something that was good and should not be abandoned. I hardly believe it's Japan quality. I keep my alpha 700 and alpha 900 but won't replace it with new models...
StevenE: When I studied the trumpet my teacher told me "the quickest way to become satisfied with your performance is to lower your standards." The same applies to photography.
I'll keep my 5DIII; the compacts and mirror-less (I've tried a couple) are just not ready yet. I'll carry an EOS-M with 22mm f/2 when photography is secondary and I want something reasonable with me.
Funny your gear list has 5DII and no mention of EOS-M, so are you just making up stuff?
Jesper Frickmann: YES! This is what I have been waiting for. I must say that Gustav's sample shots with the ZEISS look really good! And I like the size of that lens too. But I also like the longer focal length and the price of the G... The reviews will decide which one I get for my NEX 6!
beavertown: Nikon is dying. They don't even have their own sensor.
Canon 70D kills the Nikon equivalent by thousand miles.
@ Eyeglass10101 Beavertown is not completely wrong, Nikon uses Sony and recently Toshiba sensors in their cameras and in the past Aptina made sensors for Nikon, so you are wrong by saying they make their own sensors, but I see nothing wrong with a company using the best sensors out there so all the power to Nikon, all Canon does is recycle their old sensors, this is their first new sensor in a long time
