In my own experience dxo is more joke than film simulation. Well... I would call it a great visual effects plugin but not the one for emulating analog film.

Tried the app and found it a horrible tap-tap-tap-tap revenge. Needs 12(!!!) taps just to apply a filter to your photo.

I have both lightgram and reallyniceimages.My preference is realliniceimages (their Insta2 presets). It's a bit personal, but to me it looks like they spent more time making presets neater and more...

Reallyniceimages (Insta2).Works better to me, makes nicer colours and looks more 'instagramy'.

Processing - that's up to you. You can even shoot raw and emulate low-contrast film if you like. Yeh, it will be just another trend ))

It is definitely a huge lightsource used for filling the scene. Big studio softbox or two. And a good dynamic range of camera.Looks like well lit, normally exposed and then processed in lightroom...
