Since when was 24mm "ultra wide angle"? Even a few compacts start at this.

Anyone? It's not just for bugs and butterflies - I get called on to take close-ups of small components at work, and having to get the lens right up close to the subject is a perennial problem...

Does anyone know of a decent compact that can focus closely at the telephoto end of its range? I had an old Minolta F100 that could do this and I found it very useful for getting close shots...

Thank you, Chris. I have a older Canon A-series myself, but it's a bit chunky for her. I don't mind buying s/hand, as most photographers look after their kit, and viewfinders do seem to be going...

My partner is looking for a replacement for her Kodak DX7630 with something a bit newer and neater. She's an old-fashioned girl, though, and wants a proper viewfinder. Any ideas?
