The astrophotographer's Noct Nikkor does make one awesome night portrait lens

Replied in Our 12-35mm preview updated with samples
I hope I can afford this for my GH1. If not, I may just get a Sony A57 and 16-50.
Equivalence? Whatever...
I want this lens so I can grab shots at 1/20 sec, F2.8, ISO1600+, in areas where its...

Replied in Prime for street photography at night
This guy seems to have his night street photography down to an art

This is one genre of photography where I wish m4/3 had a fast standard zoom

Replied in Will cleaning the front element eventually cause the coating to come off?
In any case, don't touch the element and you wont have to clean as often. I've learned to keep my fingers far away from the business end.
Learn to leave the minor marks alone

Replied in NEX: "NYC Then & Now"
I love the twilight shots
Are they HDR-ed?

Replied in FF lenses on APS-C sensor cameras
equivalence matters when you're buying a lens...
A 20mm, on FF is considered an UWA, on APS-C, it's barely wide

Replied in NYC trip- DSLR or P&S?
Bring it. You will be one of 100,000 people with a DSLR out
Part of me thinks that there are more photographers than human subjects in this city.
Going through the LES (Grand St, Orchard St,...

Replied in exposure for - Bright, sunny background; subject in shade
I think you can meter the background, lock the exposure, and the camera's TTL metering system will use the flash to properly exposure the subject for you

Replied in Black out camera name with tape WHy?
It makes smug non pros feel more "pro"
Seriously, any dpreviewer can recognize a Canon/Nikon/Olympus/Pentax if they saw one... you're not fooling anybody, or hiding anything
-
Replied in NOS 1961 Nikon F on eBay
That's a tad high, but not insane
Having hung out with some serious camera collectors, every scratch and dent counts. A flawless common M3 in the mid 90s would command $3000 all day long. Put in...

Replied in Why No Inexpensive DSLR's For Point & Shooters?
Panasonic's GF3 and GF5 were made for you guys
Doesn't cost that much less, though
Software/Firmware costs nothing (next to nothing)
Most of us here are annoyed that manufacturers take away...

Replied in Do you use telephoto lenses for small stuff far away or only big stuff far away?
Wait, is the picture of the sheep the full picture, or a crop ?
