an absolute steal
MyMusin: bias review...oh my!! This is so cool and I don't care about shooting movie capability since a photo camera supposed to shoot pictures not making movie...
but it would spoil the concept imho . I think it is cooler in this basic and exquisite form
dmanthree: Pics aren't bad, but it's too bad that the camera is marooned in a Windows phone that nobody wants. It if isn't IOS or Andriod, forget it.
windows is pretty secure since Vista. Arguably the most secure OS. Actually most vulnerabilities on Windows come from third party software (java and flash accounting for most with winamp, quicktime and itunnes following)
wakaba: So all are crap but pretty close to p&s. That is death to p&s.
With Nokia and WP you get skydrive photo backup, integration and sharing is topnotch. Sharepoint works really well.
The car is really that bright - difficult to shoot. Think 920 did a good job.
sounds like you are trolling ... you can choose to share without pass with pass, without editing right or with .... it is the best service of the kind. Consider the apps and cross platform availability
robogobo: The review keeps saying the S4 shows more detail, but all I'm seeing is over sharpening on top of too much NR. Not impressed at all. I'd much prefer the iPhone's natural look.
i frankly find the iphone as the big disappointment here. Considering the overall gap of features and higher price tag .
for something that you can carry in your pocket is the best around and the desktop application has other cool features. It has some obvious shortcomings on phones with no gyroscope but it is fun nonetheless
cinemascope: I guess Samsung got fed up with all the crap from all Apple and ditched them all together.
Samsung is the unbeaten the king of displays these days, good luck to Apple trying to source another supplier at the same quality/price level...
xperia, lumia. Best display on a phone? why is it grey not black in the dark ? best display in an i-phone
Octane: Maybe it's just not aimed at photographers and their needs.
it is aimed at nexus and its potential buyers
Mssimo: When did 1024 x 768 8" screen become "low-res." This article needs a new title. It may suck for photographers but for other reasons like its crap 5MP camera and low storage.
it is the lowest in the range (nexus, asus etc) and most are 7 not 7.9, so being the lowest res can get you the low res label
Kim Letkeman: This article was nice, but ultimately really disappointing. I want to know how to replace a laptop and / or external storage with a tablet, as in the full work flow from transfer to storage to editing. Not how to use its crappy camera in place of the much better m4/3 cameras I am already carrying. Some of what I am interested in was alluded to, but unless I had a world-class brain fart, this article did not actually go into any depth on how it might be possible to live with a table and your cameras only while on the road. It ends up being a puff piece and unworthy of DPReview. I can get this kind of high level info on CNET or one of the many gadget sites :-(
Infinity IMHO beats hands down the others for functionality because of the docking option and available ports ... This is probably going to change with Win8 , I would wait before getting anything
I don't see anything remarkable in the photos above but the incredible talent of the photographer.
But certainly having just a phone is limiting. The limits also spur creativity. But I don't think the author needed that challenge.
Interesting as an experiment but the phone will remain a favorite pub camera
qwertyasdf: Looking at the Flickr data....where's Nikon, Sony, Pentax?!3 Canon cameras taking top 5 positions.
have tried to browse iphone pictures on flickr?
Mrrowe8: Stop this crap about "what about this phone or that " no one owns those phones ! They suck , just fact .. no one unless they are trying to make a bigger the statement of how anti-apple they are .,so DP is doing the rt thing by reviewing I-phone to I-phone ... And the douchetard that said a point and shoot is cheaper and better , c'mon man stop that crap to cause labor camp comment disqualified any of ur other ignorant statements .. The IPhone like it or not is changing photography as an art and is the death bell of ur cheap point and shoot cameras ...that is not a pipe dream it's a fact
"The IPhone like it or not is changing photography as an art " - what are you on?
Peter62: German STIFTUNG WARENTEST (leading independent product test organisation) rated the iPhone 5's _video_ capabilities clearly ABOVE the Nokia 808.
i think it is too independent. Independent of common sens too
Freedom: The options in terms of photography are endless. Please don't forget: Additionally the iPhone's cam is a…
— live TV camera (you can broadcast via UStream, try that with a compact or any other camera)— slow motion, time lapse and tilt shift cam (software)— photo camera (with TONS of great apps for editing, effects, collages, filters…)— barcode scanner (saves a lot of money)— QR code scanner— document scanner (optical character recognition apps)— facetime camera— video conference tool— loupe (esp. iPad)!— mirror (frontside camera)— augmented reality tool (social apps, sky explorer, games)
SD card reader (adapter). Organizer (check out 'Photo Manager Pro'). ExifRemover. There are pretty good remote control apps for Canon and Nikon DSLRs. Have your viewfinder on an iPad!
Connect and simultaneously record from up to EIGHT devices linked over WiFi (app "Video Camera"). The iPad can be used as a pretty good softbox. Have a look at 'SoftBox Pro für iPad'. ‘Action Movie FX’.
and don't forget that there are phones that do those things and more a lot smoother (QR codes on windows phone, nokia city lens etc)
makofoto: The panorama's are pretty darn amazing ... from a PHONE camera !!! Download the Original File size and Magnify that:
Photosynth from M$
Infms: "In qualititative terms it's not the best camera out there, and nor is it the best camera on a smartphone (the Nokia 808 has that honor, for now)"
Surprisingly, the 24 month old Nokia N8 still holds this honor too. With the general consensus being:
#1 Nokia 808#2 Nokia N8#3 Galaxy S3/iPhone 5/etc.
i am not sure about #3 for neither
thumbs up for Nikon D3200, D600 and D800. They have raised the bar, really
great image, but being apple i was expecting sheep
the screens shots bring back dark memories since I was using an iPhoney
