YouDidntDidYou: you want to try Middlesbrough, if they don't ask for you "camera license" they will accuse you having stolen your own camera!

I have name, copyright and all set in the menu!
And if they drag it on, sue me! I ve got the warranty at home with the serial number of my camera!
Is that enough?

Congratulation to the Bobbies! this is a case of police defending the public as it would be natural against the bold security guards and their corporations!

That is absolutely great news, with Pentax switching to toys, let's hope Fuji will start making some good stuff and Canon and Nikon going into the mirrorless market, what an interesting future for cameras!

It may be hard for some to digest but Rioch a strong company is better suited to manage Pentax than there present guardian

well if wont last , the most troubled companies will always be the smallest, it's pure and simple economic!

They are not hard everywhere, sales of DSLR in Australia went up 56% in 2010. If a company like Canon, Nikon , Sony, Panasonic makes good cameras, people buy it. If they make rainbow cameras to make a sale, well is rather sad... and in the long term you see the results...

harrisoncac: Hope that Ricoh will kill the Q.

what an imagination!
probably someone here dont understand that you cannot kill samsung and sony, they are the 2 biggest electronic companies in the known universe and Samsung is growing fast (like it or not!) and I could also add Panasonic.
Canon and Nikon have their big group of followers and are the most reliable as continuity and lens choice. The only ones that NOW and in the future will struggle are Ricoh (most people I know never even heard of it!) and Pentax which will be eventally be taken over by someone else in the future (see Konica-Minolta, didnt last long...)

TK Chan: It is meaningless for dpreview to call this type of interchangeable lens compacts "mirrorless" . It is really awkard.

I agree, I actually suggest DPREVIEW to change the classification of camera in the website, no more compact and interchangeable lenses camera, but just small sensor and large sensor, with small sensor being everything smaller than a 4:3.
That would be more fair towards high quality cameras like Fuji x100 and Leica x1 with APSC sensor and would point more attention on quality, rather than quantity of lenses.
Would be cool to have a pool on that, who would agree?

Gethenderson: I was waiting for this firmware upgrade to see if it addressed the concerns that have held me back from buying the X100. And it doesn't.

1) RAW button assignment.
2) MF ring being too slow.

Crazy oversights to me. Lost them a customer right here.

imagine that a raw button! why would people and camera maker want a raw button?
if you shoot raw, you shoot raw.

lumiere: I Think if you put a Red dot on it a leica name on top, it would sell to the fools that buy re-baged panasonics. of course than the price would be $1500 US. ;). pentax you just do not have the same reputation (despite their great limited primes) nor does it sound like a good product at $800 even if it was a Leica.

That might be true for entry level Leica, 4/3 and APSC but the buyer that can afford a full frame Leica has a camera that is worth it.

A part that that has got nothing to do with Pentax, this is just a compact camera with a crappy sensor, nothing to do with Leica!

Said that go and check Leica lenses as well before you talk, whoever has both a Leica and say Canon or Nikon knows that the worst Leica lens is better than the best Canon/Nikon.

On Pentax Q preview (279 comments in total)
In reply to:

michalc: I don't get it.. First Sony announces NEX system with tiny body and huge lenses. My first thought was - why they couldn't develop smaller sensor - something between 1/1.6'' and APS-C. That would be a reasonable compromise between size and IQ. True, Sony has great IQ but the only lens which makes this set portable is 16mm. And this is still an alternative for a DSLR. Now to Pentax - tiny sensor and sophisticated system around that. Such sensor cannot deliver decent IQ at present trechnology level. SO one question - what is the point? Probably they thought - customer is stupid and will look in the shop for a mirrorless system camera (trendy), will compare Sony NEX, Olympus Pen, Panasonic G and Pentax Q and will choose Pentax due to look/size. This is a humbug as Pentax will not even come close to IQ of any of these systems. Good luck Pentax. The original question remains.. why someone cannot produce new sensor size. We know Sony won't, Oly/Pana has 4/3'' - counting on Canon now...

I reckon Pentax would have been better off joining the 4/3 but they were too proud to do it and also you are right, some people with low knowledge in a shop just look at the size and would opt for Pentax, verrrry sad indeed!

Let's hope not to get dust on the sensor,
a single grain of dust would cover it all!!!!

Pentax, what a joke!!!
of course it' s the smallest interchangeable lenses camera, it's also the only one with a crappy compact camera sensor!
what a sadness Pentax I really think game OVER.
This new segment could have really been the last stand for Pentax with Canon and Nikon not in the game yet and I guess they've missed the train!

Yes , I didnt say anything about the uglyness of it and the fact that most compact have also + pixels...
