I have the original 14-140. It does the same thing, rattles when off and hums when on. I can only hear the humming when I put my ear to the end of the lens. I have never noticed the humming noise...

Forget the steady-cam stuff for now. You have a tripod and fluid head. That is good enough for your first outing. To hand hold just use your eye on the viewfinder as a third contact point.

Reviews I have read is that it is not all that spectacular. I don't think it is even designed specifically for m4/3. Same lens as Fuji X or NEX with a different mount, so it is larger than it needs...
