  • Replied in me too :-)
  • Replied in @mike
Thanks mike - yes the air was not so clear as you can see.... it was worse than it looks in the pics as I boosted contrast and saturation a lot in post to compensate for the haze / smog. Best wishes
  • Many thanks.  I really enjoyed your blog...  I didn't have time during the one day in Shanghai to get away from the main 'cityscape' photos and look at some of the older parts like you did... but...
  • Replied in firmware update?
Ron and Phil... The K-01 ships with firmware 1.0.  Updating this makes a massive improvement to AF speed and accuracy... it's like night and day.  Worth checking. Best wishes
  • Replied in good point
Well spotted Kesha.  the firmware upgrade makes a huge - really huge - difference to AF speed.  OP: if you have firmware 1.0, update it and then see... Best wishes
  • It should be fine.  My 55-300 focuses fine on a K-01 and is f/5.8 at the long end.  In low light and with a low-contrast subject it can fail to find focus but that is true with a DSLR also; in...
  • +1.  Learning how to give appropriate citations and acknowledgement of sources is essential and would be a valuable part of the lesson for schoolchildren. Best wishes
  • Just back from a two week work trip to Nanjing.  I also managed a day in Shanghai last weekend.  I had with me my K-01, DA16-45 and DAL55-300 zooms, and the 40mm XS pancake prime... here are some...
  • Replied in logic fail
You really don't get it, do you?  There is a fundamental difference between sharing (which is under your control) and being stolen from which is not.  I, too, am happy to share my photos for the...
  • That's a huge assumption.  Yes, I and many other amateurs take lots of worthless snaps that are unlikely to be harvested by others.  Many talented photographers, in contrast, will spend a great...
  • Riiiigght... so let's see how this brilliant principle affects, let's say, musicians and writers.  By your remarkable logic, as soon as a composer has a piece of music performed (i.e. made public)...
  • I love the idea of sharing.  I just wonder if those who want to 'share' (= take and re-use without permission) other people's work for their own benefit will be so keen to 'share' the proifts of...
  • Replied in Michelle....
+1.  the shot looks absolutely fine to me at 100% view. Best wishes
  • Replied in Sorry, but no.
EXACTLY.  I can't believe this is causing so much confusion...
  • Hi Frank OK... the second shot first (the people) as that is simple.  Focus looks to be on the stripy coat of the woman; her arm / shoulder nearest the camera is sharpest and because it is a highly...
  • Yes (except the image will be twice the size of course as you will have about double the pixel count) Perfectly expressed. As long as the intensity of light is the same (which it will be for your...
  • thought so :-) thanks
  • That's what this forum is for :-) If you shot RAW to start with - and didn't do anhything else to the pics - what you are looking at is a jpeg that your viewer has extracted from the RAW file...
  • Aha... that makes sense.  When read noise dominates in low light conditions it will scale with number of pixels in a way that shot noise (which is related to sensor area) doesn't.   Do you know the...
  • The noise from your second scenario will appear less for a given image size.  If you view the image from a small sensor at (say) 12 x 9 inches.... and then recreate the same image from a 3x3 grid...
