What's your source for that info?
I can't find anyting on the backing other than that the pilgrims site is a product of mediumdivision.com which leads to nothing.

We are in fact self funded at this point! No affiliation with Facebook or Instagram.
Interestingly enough, Facebook hasn't had any hand in Instagram yet, the purchase is still in pending.
