Dubai is a spectacular city if you like to photograph buildings, but it's far from being a paradise. The real truth is that a lot of the buildings are empty, all the buildings operate on septic tanks. there is no sewer system, and it suffers from constant gridlock and power brownouts. I watched this town grow from a sleepy little trading port to this glitzy Disneyland for adults, and I much preferred the old Dubai.

Still using the same unnecessarily complex and meaningless rules that add absolutely nothing to quality of the entries. Still the lowest participation rate of any of the challenge hosts.
I like the SL1 better than either the Fujfilm X-100 or the Sony NEX-7 that I had previously. It is much easier to use to photograph my fast moving grand children as it focuses much faster than either the X-100 or the NEX 7. I use the 40mm, f2.8 a lot of the time as it very sharp and always spot on with the focus. The one thing I wish it had is a swing-out rear screen.
Rags like Time and Newsweek have made themselves irrelevant. Their awards for Person of the Year and for best photo are meaningless and an insult to the people who did make a difference.

Something smells very fishy about this challenge. The winning photo had 135 views and a score of 3.5. The rest of the entries had fewer than 30 views each and average scores that were no higher than 3.2. Normally the entries are much closer than this. Just sayin'.
Should there be a separate category for professional photographers so that there is a level playing field, or at least it should be identified as a photo taken by a professional which has been published for commercial purposes Also, isn't the photo the property of the client, not the property of the photographer? Therefore it is no longer the right of the photographer to use it as he sees fit?

This was a self defeating challenge. Inevitably, one of the lowest participation rate I have seen (although there was one not long ago that had zero submissions) and the photos are OK, but nothing to make one run out and buy a fisheye lens. Can't help but think that there would have been more submissions, and the quality would have been much better if the rules allowed photos taken before the challenge announcement date.
