Greg, nope just a (camera)life-long user of DPP to convert raw files. I've never had to investigate software for dng and didn't realise lots of software had taken it up.
-
I feel sorry for people who converted their raws to dng and deleted the originals!

Goodbye Adobe, hello Gimp.

I'm a bird photographer too.
I have the top focus point on my 7D registered. It's invaluable for subjects that come quite close and you need the top AF point to focus on the head/face, or basically...

So first of all you just assumed there was a date for this imaginary 70D, then you elevated that to a fact to base your second assumption on, and now you're bragging about it...
Nearly spat my tea...

If Canon now produce a 7D II with the same strong AA filter as the 7D, there will be a lot of dissapointed people i think.Cameras with no AA filter will inherently have more detail in their...

Yeh a default transfer wizard is not the thing to use for large files.Could also use a card reader instead of plugging into the camera.

It says in the first paragraph of the article.Dpreview doesn't appear to have a rolling eyes emoticon. It's sorely needed i think :-P
-
If the AF performance is at 1DX levels i'll be all over that.I'm not taking number of AF points as a guide though. Servo AF performance is where it's at for me.

Thankyou Gary :) very helpful.I'm hoping a 7dmk2 or similar spec 1.6 crop body will be good with the 600 II. Was a bit depressing for me to see how it performed compared to my 500 IS mk1 (which i...

What's the focussing like with the 7d and the new 500 II Gary?I tried a 600 II both without and with a tc and the combination seems really bad.Seeing several people starting to say that online now....

If there's enough light i'll try to push to the right, especially with birds with white and dark areas on them, as you need the detail in the dark areas. Underexposing already dark areas usually...

I guess sometimes. But most of the time not from what i've seen. It's been the general consensus that in recent years there's been a lot higher percentage of "good ones" though. Please don't think i...

100-400 all the way. Sharper, faster AF, better colour, better contrast, less undesirable lens effects like chromatic aberration. The resolution of the Canon makes the 100mm advantage null and void...
-
The thing with the 500 F4 primes (and what a lot of people don't realise) is that they're also so sharp, that adding a 1.4 TC (to get a 700mm F5.6) leaves you with a 700mm lens with the same F-stop...
-
If it's for BIF and wildlife in general, i'd urge you to consider the 400 F5.6 L prime from Canon, on average it's noticeably sharper than the 100-400 (by average i mean the zoom has more sample...

One step even further/better (depending on your point of view)...
